๐จ PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE โ SCHOOL BUS STOP VIOLATIONS ๐จ
The City of Quinlan Police Department has received multiple complaints regarding motorists failing to stop for school buses when red warning lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.
This is a serious safety concern that puts our children at risk.
Pursuant to Texas Transportation Code ยง 545.066, drivers are required to stop for a school bus operating visual signals (flashing red lights) and displaying an extended stop sign โ regardless of the direction of travel โ unless the roadway is separated by a physical barrier or is a divided highway.
โ ๏ธ Penalties: Fines range from $500 to $1,250 for a first offense, with enhanced penalties for repeat violations or if serious bodily injury occurs.
The safety of our children is a shared responsibility. Please remain alert, reduce speed in school zones and residential neighborhoods, and strictly comply with all school bus safety laws.
Together, we can help keep Quinlan safe for our children, families, and visitors.
