61 years ago today, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was signed into law. The VRA eliminated Jim Crow practices such as poll taxes and literacy tests, ensuring equal voting rights for all citizens. 🗳️

Since 1965, the Voting Rights Act has faced numerous attacks. In 2013, Section 5 of the Act was weakened, and earlier this year, Congress further gutted Section 2.

Today, we witness the ongoing struggle against voter suppression in North Carolina. The state’s General Assembly and Board of Elections are implementing stringent ID laws, reducing early voting periods, removing polling places from college campuses, and even prohibiting noise outside polling stations.

This November, all NC state Senators and Representatives will be on the ballot, and your vote can make a difference in shaping the future of our state.
