JOHNSTON COUNTY IS WORTH PAYING ATTENTION TO.

Local government affects the things we deal with every day—growth, roads, schools, public safety, taxes, development, small business, and the future of our communities.

The Johnston County chapter of the Veterans Party of North Carolina is focused on a simple set of principles:

Integrity. Accountability. Service. Community.

We believe public leadership should be measured by results, transparency, responsibility, and a willingness to work with people who may not agree on everything.

This organization is open to all Johnston County residents. You do not have to be a veteran, and you do not need political experience to learn more, attend a meeting, or participate in a community discussion.

Johnston County is growing fast. The decisions being made today will shape Clayton, Smithfield, Selma, Benson, Princeton, Four Oaks, Archer Lodge, Kenly, Pine Level, Micro, Wilson’s Mills, and the communities between them for years to come.

GOOD MORNING, JOHNSTON COUNTY. 🇺🇸

Here’s something happening in our county that probably won’t generate nearly as many arguments as national politics, but could have a much bigger impact on what Johnston County actually looks like ten years from now.

The Unified Development Ordinance.

Sounds exciting, right?

Probably not.

But this is exactly the kind of thing people should know about.

Johnston County is growing.

Houses are being built.

Roads are getting busier.

Farms are sitting next to new subdivisions.

Water, sewer, schools, public safety, and infrastructure all have to keep pace.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that is a very important question:

HOW DO WE GROW WITHOUT LOSING WHAT MAKES JOHNSTON COUNTY JOHNSTON COUNTY?

The County has been working on a new Unified Development Ordinance, or UDO, that will help establish the rules governing future development.

That means questions like:

Does the infrastructure support the growth?

What happens to traffic?

What happens to neighboring farms?

Are property rights being respected?

Are taxpayers eventually paying for infrastructure that wasn’t adequately planned?

Are we protecting Johnston County’s rural character while still allowing responsible economic growth?

What does the data actually show?

And most importantly:

Are the people affected being heard before the decision is made?

This is where the Veterans Party of North Carolina believes politics should look different.

We’re not interested in automatically deciding:

Development = good.

Or:

Development = bad.

That’s lazy politics.

We believe in asking the questions.

Reading before reacting.

Listening before deciding.

Looking at the facts.

Then holding leadership accountable for the results.

Johnston County can grow.

Johnston County can support business.

Johnston County can protect farms and rural communities.

Johnston County can plan responsibly.

Those goals do not have to be enemies.

Good leadership is figuring out how to balance them.

The first UDO drop-in session is scheduled for September 9 from 6:00–8:00 PM at the Johnston County Agricultural Center in Smithfield, with another on September 23 at Johnston Community College.

Whether you ultimately agree with every part of the proposal or not, this is our county and these are exactly the conversations worth paying attention to.

Because while everybody is watching Washington…

🇺🇸 Jackson County Veterans Party of North Carolina

We’re veterans, families, and people who actually live here. Not outsiders with a plan for our mountains. We believe the Constitution still means what it says, veterans earned their benefits instead of having them treated like a political football, and Jackson County ought to come first for a change.

Nobody in this party draws a paycheck. Not the chairman, not the folks who may show up at county meetings, not the ones hanging signs. All volunteers. That’s the point. If somebody’s in it for a title or a cut of something, they’re in the wrong outfit.

You don’t have to have worn a uniform. Plenty of us did. Plenty didn’t. What we need is people who are tired of watching Sylva, Cullowhee, and Cashiers get priced out while the same two parties keep selling the same line.

Right now we’re looking for help in Jackson County:

Secretary
Treasurer
Events
Membership and outreach

To get this party officially recognized by the State of North Carolina so voters can actually register with it and our candidates can appear on the ballot, the law is pretty straightforward and it isn’t cheap in hours. We have to collect 14,310 valid signatures from registered North Carolina voters. That’s 0.25 percent of the people who voted for governor last time. On top of that we need at least 200 of those signatures from three different congressional districts. Jackson County sits in District 11th, so that’s one. The rest of the state has to do its part too.

Also just bodies who’ll show up, talk to neighbors, work a table, or keep an eye on the county commissioners and school board. No experience required. We’ll figure it out together.

You do not need to be a to join us. We were created by for ALL North Carolinians. We are Constitutional orthodoxists, technocrats, and centrists.

Constitutional orthodoxists: the Constitution is the fixed standard. Rights, federalism, and the rule of law are not seasonal talking points.

Technocrats: once those guardrails are set, solutions should be judged by whether they work — not by which party invented them.

Centrists: we are not here to serve the left or the right. We are here to serve the state and the country as founded.

If you are tired of the two parties treating principle as optional and competence as optional, there is a place for you.
