⏰ 30 DAYS REMAINING TO APPLY for the Renew NC Multi-Family Construction and Repair (MCR) Program: Non-LIHTC. Applications are due Nov. 2, 2026.

The program provides $70 million in federal CDBG-DR funding to support the rehabilitation or development and construction of multi-family rental housing with five or more units that does not qualify for or receive Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC).

Quick Application Reminders

- Award amounts: $500,000–$15 million per project

- Eligible applicants: For-profit and nonprofit developers, public housing authorities, local governments, and eligible joint ventures

- Eligible areas: HUD- and State-identified Most Impacted and Distressed (MID) areas

- Eligible uses: New construction of multi-family rental units and substantial rehabilitation of existing rental units

Important: Applications must be submitted through the Renew NC Grant Portal. Applications submitted by email or hard copy will not be accepted. Visit commercerecovery.nc.gov for more information.

Both are receiving new homes through the Renew NC Single-Family Housing Program after their previous homes were badly damaged by the storm. Their stories are a reminder that recovery isn’t just about rebuilding houses — it’s about helping people get back home.

Through Renew NC, we’re working to repair, replace, and rebuild homes for families across western North Carolina. And while every recovery journey looks a little different, the strength, resilience, and hope we see in communities across the mountains continues to inspire us.

What a beautiful day to deliver the keys to another homeowner — this time to Mayor Guinn and her husband, Tommy, in Elk Park, N.C. 🏡💙

It’s been a long road home for them since Helene caused significant damage to the home where they had lived for more than 30 years. Both were born and raised in Elk Park, and this community has always been home.

Now, they have a new place to call home, made possible through the Renew NC Single-Family Housing Program and built by Dynamic Group. We're thankful to hand them the keys and see them step into a new home — a place to make new memories while continuing the story of a life rooted in Elk Park.

🏡🔑 : A new home. A fresh start. A special moment to remember.

Yesterday, Governor Josh Stein and Anna Stein, First Lady of North Carolina presented two homeowners in Yancey County with the keys to their brand-new home through North Carolina’s Renew NC program — marking another important step forward in their recovery from Helene. 💙

This key-turning was especially meaningful because Governor Stein and the First Lady had met the homeowners earlier this summer at a restaurant in Mitchell County. During that conversation, they learned the homeowners had applied for assistance through Renew NC.

On Sunday, they were able to reconnect and share in the excitement of seeing the homeowners receive the keys to their new home. Their new three-bedroom, two-bathroom home was built by Dynamic Group in just 75 days, giving them a safe, secure place to call home and begin the next chapter.

We’re honored to be part of their story and to help families across western North Carolina move forward, one home at a time.

This new 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom home in Mill Spring was built by Shepherd Response through the Renew NC Single-Family Housing Program, helping a homeowner move forward after Hurricane Helene.

We’re proud to work alongside dedicated builders and recovery partners across Western North Carolina to help homeowners rebuild and return home. Together, we’re making progress — one home, one family and one community at a time. 🏔️

Provided through North Carolina's Renew NC Single-Family Housing Program and built by Ducky Recovery , this new 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom home features built-in accessibility modifications—including grab bars, a shower seat, and raised toilets—to ensure long-term comfort and independence. 🏡

Every milestone brings us one step closer to helping another family in western NC rebuild and thrive after Hurricane Helene. Stay tuned for more progress updates as we work toward move-in day!
