Construction momentum at 12-year high, despite continued challenges
Optimism is surging for next year's construction projects, according to Dodge Data & Analytics, but unemployment benefits are keeping workers away.
Attention UBC members,
It has come to our attention that scammers are trying to get personal information from union members by calling them and claiming to be with a pension trust fund. The scamming caller typically tells the member that they need his or her social security number or SIN in Canada, date of birth, bank account number, and other information under the guise of issuing pension benefits.
Authorized staff from a trust fund or union should never reach out to you and ask you to provide personal information, such as social security numbers and birthdates, over the phone. They might ask you to confirm information they provide but should never ask you for that information.
If you are ever unsure about whether the person calling is from the entity they claim to be from, you should let them know that you will call them back using the published phone number for them. Do not give them your personal information.
You can find a directory of trust funds and regional councils on the UBC's website: For Our Members - United Brotherhood of Carpenters

Roughly 6,000 employees at the Alabama warehouse will begin voting on Feb. 8 to join the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union.
These small “takes” are slowly eroding the base of the common worker. Although this does not directly affect our current collective bargaining agreement, this will in time affect ALL workers.
That bill would add the first of the year, as well as Columbus Day and Veterans Day, to the list of holidays for which premium pay will be phased out.

UPP Cycle Ending
The current cycle of the Union Participation Program will be ending December 31. Member participation is the lifeblood of off-site union building. It holds our industry accountable, builds bonds in our communities and leads to results that generate work-hours throughout our council. Every rank-and-file member who has participated in a UPP event has contributed to our union's success. Thank you!
Members who have not participated in this cycle will have plenty of opportunities to get involved in the next 10 weeks. In addition to election and local legislative activities, the weather has been holding out well enough for local unions to continue donating labor to community projects. Holiday food and toy drives will be ramping up as we approach Thanksgiving and the December holidays.
For political action, available UPP opportunities include labor-to-labor calls that can be done from home (call your hall to learn more). The union will also be doing events in the battleground state of Maine and New Hampshire with Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Congresswoman Annie Kuster and others. Contact your local union or the political team at [email protected] to learn about these and other political activity.
For other UPP events, contact your local union.
While we will not be able to hold a "Carpenters Appreciation Night," there will still be drawings and awards for members who have completed their UPP obligation and prizes for members who have done a significant number of events.
There are volunteer opportunities for door knocking and lit drops in New Hampshire this month. Please RSVP with the hall or email the NASRCC political team using the email address at the bottom of the image below. Hope to see you there!
Make sure you get out and VOTE today!
