First, i’d like to say thankyou to Shepherd Unversity and ValleyLink for the collab. It had handicap accessibility, combined with more than enough space to roam and plenty of air conditioning. Thankyou to the County Comms that showed up and asked questions. That was really nice to see!
On balance, we shouldn’t demonize folk who’re earning a dollar in a professional manner. In my opinion, the folks last night aren’t the enemy. They aren’t the ‘bad guy’. In my opinion, 10% were actual salaried staffers, the others are temps with a sales sheet and a script, similar to those you see at booths at fairs.
The ‘green’ staff were very helpful but largely hesitant on meaningful or substantive questioning and answers. Although I was not expecting such an informal gathering, I did ask the following questions to a number of ‘green’ shirts:
How long have you worked here for and how do you like working here? (shrug)
Will the supply chain and labor force be sourced from local organizations or will you bring your own?
Is the material sourced for these projects germane to the region or are they imported from other areas?
Are the assessments conducted in connection with the planning phase awarded to local 501s that’re knowledgeable of the area or is that also internal?
“I’m not exactly sure about that but if you fill out the comment form….” is the answer I got to most.
Here’s what was most painful: Generations of farmers stood in line as they fervently, yet patiently waited to find their farm on the map. My heart hurt for them last night.
