What a great day of advocating for public education in Pierre yesterday! Christine Schmid Stephenson and I were joined by 2 principals, our wonderful superintendent and Christine’s daughter (Elsa) representing RCAS and showing our legislators how important and meaningful public education is. There were dozens of other educators, students, and board members under the dome doing the same. I was able to testify in person in the state affairs committee, meet and speak with multiple legislators from across the state to discuss concerns we have, and present ideas to strengthen education in our state. It was a valuable experience. I believe our lawmakers were impacted by the standing room only crowd in the gallery as they looked up and saw the faces of all of us who understand the value of and champion public education!

Stand with Public Education at the Capitol next month!

Join fellow South Dakota public school supporters on Monday, February 9, at the Capitol Building in Pierre for the Stand with Public Education Event! All supporters of our public schools wishing to attend are welcome to this free event and registration is not required to attend.

You are invited to the Stand with Public Education Event where breakfast will be served to Senators & Representatives in the President and Speaker lobbies the Capitol Building from 7-10:30 a.m. The event has been organized by the Langford School District.

Students are invited to attend and, in addition to serving breakfast, the day will provide attendees the opportunity to spend time and speak with their legislators, attend committee meetings and the House & Senate sessions and be part of a large group photo in the Capitol.

I wanted to post this as I often hear about the lack of CTE courses in our district or that “we don’t have things like “shop class” in schools anymore. Here is a perfect example of one of our CTE classes in action!
