This morning, our department received our new custom-built table featuring our logo from A&K coatings and millwork for the communications room, which promises to serve us effectively.

The North Haines Fire Department responded to a significant fire incident in conjunction with Rockerville Volunteer Fire Department located off Neck Yoke Rd. We have deployed Engine 3-1 with three crew members and Engine 6-2 with four crew members since 1:30 pm today. Anticipated release time is tonight. Given the rapid spread of fires in the current dry conditions, adherence to fire safety recommendations is paramount.

While no permits are required within our jurisdiction, we can’t echo enough how unsafe the conditions are right now. As a reminder anytime the grassland fire danger is in the very high or extreme category as forecasted by US National Weather Service Rapid City South Dakota there is a ban on open burning within Pennington and Meade Counties. While the Meade County ordinance does allow the local fire chief to grant permission outside of these parameters our department will not be granting such permission for the foreseeable future.

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has revoked all active pile burn permits across the Black Hills effective today, ending the pile burn season early due to dry conditions, active wildfires, and elevated fire danger. If you have recently burned debris piles, check them immediately and make sure they are completely extinguished.

North Haines assisted in the delivery of a meal to the Sage Family. With assistance from Chief Thompson, Firefighter Pritzkau, and Firefighter Sage-Morris.This small gesture was meant to ease the load so the family can focus on what truly matters. The Sage family is also related to one of our members off the department. These moments remind us that our department extends beyond emergency response it also serves our community by providing assistance in every way. NHVFD wishes the family the best on healing and a speedy recovery.
