Annette Demitraszek for Coeymans Welcome! I am Annette Demitraszek and I am running for Coeymans. . .for Town Council.

I simply want to say …thank you.

Thank you to all of you who have supported me and encouraged me throughout this campaign.

Thank you to ALL who voted in this election…to know our community is exercising their right to vote and caring to have their voices heard in electing the people they entrust with the future of this town is so important to me.

It was a fairly close race and even though I did not win I am so grateful to have had this experience. There have been so many heartwarming takeaways for me to reflect on and treasure.

Thank you to the Democratic Committee for your help and support with a very special thank you to Yvonne who went above and beyond to help and encourage me.

Thank you to my fellow Democratic candidates…it has been a pleasure to walk this journey with you. I certainly have gained a new perspective and appreciation for ANYONE who puts themselves out there to run for public office.

Lastly thank you to my family and friends…your constant support, encouragement, and love means more to me than words can say.

Thank you.

Here we are…tomorrow is Election Day!

I have shared my thoughts, my vision, and my heart on this page and my personal page as well as in a letter to the editor of the News Herald, in a request for information for a News Herald article, in my campaign flyer, in the many conversations with residents, at events, at meetings, etc.

Now I will simply ask once again for your vote.

Please know that
COEYMANS matters,
YOUR VOTE matters, and
YOU matter.
Exercise your right to vote and let your voice be heard.

Please vote for Annette Demitraszek for Coeymans Town Council.

Thank you.

I POSITIVELY and EMPHATICALLY do not want to go back to anything even remotely like this…Coeymans in the headlines, connected with scandal, corruption, half truths, back door dealings, etc. along with all the questionable ways of doing business that did not make it to the headlines.

Until last week with the postcard mailing attacking the current administration with misleading information, half truths, etc., I naively and optimistically thought we were beyond all this nastiness and negativity.

Again enough… let’s focus on and collaborate to
continuing to move FORWARD . We do deserve better.

Let’s keep moving forward…fiscally responsible!!!

In a recent issue of the News Herald, a couple of candidates indicated their main focus would be a new town hall (really?!). On a Republican page a statement was made that the current plan “does not strike me as a wise use of capital”.

A wise use of capital? We have gone through several options for this much needed facility. Options put forth by a previous administration included building a new office building on the current site (which was finally rejected). I don’t have the actual money spent without submitting a FOIL request but be assured that exploring this option, a very expensive one, cost the Town money in engineering expenses, attorney fees, etc. ( along with time, which we cannot recoup). Then we were presented with 16 Hillcrest Drive, another expensive proposition, and more time and money was invested in exploring that option. The Hillcrest property didn’t necessarily include everyone under the same roof; residents were left with the impression that the police would not be there as it was a big concern of many.

The current administration also was left with the Town renting office space…a temporary situation but without real forward progress until now. Will this new location hold also the police and court? Not yet… but building so they can be on site as well is a vision to be fulfilled in the near future.

All these expenses with these options formerly presented were not “the best use of capital “ … money lost with no actual solution. I have learned that the focus on the Town hall by some Republican candidates is to sell the 9w property and explore yet again another option. I am concerned not only with that prospect but what yet again another option may be.

Let’s continue to move forward…I am excited to see our new offices on 9w up and running in December!

In the October 16th issue of the Ravena News Herald there was an article about the 4 candidates running for the two open board seats. I have yet to see their page post that article …I did find it on their website. I don’t know why they didn’t share it as they shared all the other races but I thought I would try to share my contribution to the article here…hope you can read it.

I have strived to run a campaign of positivity, collaboration, community and heart…that’s who I am. I was dismayed and saddened to see the opposite in a mailer I received yesterday from the Conservative Committee. My first reaction was one based on the past of “no…not again”; the second reaction was my teacher one … “ENOUGH !”.

First, the Donnelly administration is not just Supervisor Donnelly…while the Supervisor is the chair of the meetings he only is one vote. There are 4 council members and a few other elected officials that are part of the current administration. That mailer was a startling reminder and contrast to the Democrats’ recent one. Snippets of half truths, without the whole picture and seemingly intentionally misleading, is not the way I operate. In my opinion that mailer not only had a negative slant towards the supervisor but the whole administration including some of their own candidates .

Secondly, I have attended or watched the board meetings from home since becoming a candidate. It has been my homework, my research of the current issues facing the town. Contrary to a snarky comment made to me right after the caucus, I have attended many meetings in the past and even spoke on occasion (meetings about the pool, budgets, Hillcrest property come to mind). I often watched at the beginning of Mr. Donnelly’s tenure and it has seemed to me that some of the elected officials had little interest in working together, right from the start. Just my opinion.

ENOUGH ! (Said in a teacher voice) That mailer reminded me of the past…I for one don’t want to go backwards, I want to move forwards. This is our board, our town, our home. Leave the snarky, petty rhetoric at home along with the egos. Represent us respectfully, care fully, and have integrity…don’t make us constantly wonder when we will have to look for a knife sticking out of our backs. The only agenda should be what is best for us all. Again, ENOUGH!

With one week until Election Day I want to share with you all one of the positive takeaways from this whole, sometimes stressful, campaign process. Seeing former students and/or families of former students has been a heartwarming experience. Being a teacher was not a “job”to me…it was and still is part of who I am. My students were my kids…in that time we spent together they were not just names on my class lists or numbers in my grade book. They were so much more; they became part of my heart and remained so over the years. This particular former student appeared in my classroom, I think in the fall of 1984,as a 7th grader. Can you believe that was over 40 years ago?!!!

I do hope and would be so proud to work in collaboration with the mayor and many of the other wonderful people in our town to move Coeymans forward. I so love this town…thank you Coeymans!
