📢 Penalties for Not Filing Taxes (2026 IRS Rules) 📢

Let’s keep this simple and factual 👇🏽

🚨 Failure to File
If you owe and don’t file, the IRS charges 5% per month of the unpaid tax.
➡️ Max penalty is 25%
➡️ If you’re over 60 days late, minimum penalty is $510 (2026) or 100% of what you owe

🚨 Failure to Pay
Filed but didn’t pay?
➡️ 0.5% per month of the unpaid balance
➡️ Also capped at 25%

💰 Interest
Interest starts from the original due date and compounds daily. It applies to your tax AND penalties.

⚠️ Serious Consequences
• Federal tax lien on your property
• Wage garnishment or bank levy (no traditional court order needed)
• Passport restrictions if debt is over $62,000+
• Refunds applied to old debt
• Criminal charges in extreme fraud cases

📌 Biggest key: File on time even if you can’t pay. Not filing costs you more.

PATH Act has officially lifted 🙌🏽

If you claimed EIC or CTC, the IRS can now begin releasing your refund.

Before you get excited though…

Today is a federal holiday. That means no IRS movement until at the earliest the 17th.

Start checking transcripts after the 17th for updates.
We’re almost there.

You can have dependents and still get your refund if you did not claim credits that cause a hold.

Attention all tax clients 👀👇🏾

Loan approval rules have changed now to in season. Banks will NOT review a tax loan application until the return is ACCEPTED by the IRS ⏳

That means:
✔️ Filed is not enough
✔️ Acknowledged is not enough
✔️ IRS ACCEPTED comes FIRST

Once the IRS accepts the return, then the bank looks at it for loan approval 💸

This slows things down a bit, but it also cuts fraud, protects refunds, and keeps everyone compliant 👍🏾

So no delays aren’t the preparer. No calling won’t speed it up. Acceptance first. Loan second.💯
