Reading Fire Dept Emergency Medical Services

Reading Fire Dept Emergency Medical Services RFD EMS operates four Advanced Life Support ambulances 24-hours a day. In 2020 RFD EMS handled over 20,000 calls for service.

The RFD EMS is a 911 only service that provides excellent pre-hospital patient care services to the residents & visitors of the City of Reading & other Berks County areas.

It is with profound sadness that the Reading Area Fire Museum announces the passing of our beloved President and valued Board Member, William H. Rehr III was a passionate leader, dedicated advocate, and tireless champion for preserving and sharing the rich history of firefighting in our community. His vision, commitment, and countless contributions helped make the museum a treasured resource for generations. We extend our deepest condolences to Bill’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The fire service and museum community have lost a truly remarkable individual. Funeral and memorial service details will be shared as they become available.

Tonight, we proudly celebrate Paramedics Mark Placek and Michael Quintinsky as they are recognized as Hometown Heroes at FirstEnergy Stadium, presented by T-Mobile.

Every day, Mark and Michael answer the call with professionalism, compassion, and dedication to the residents and visitors of our community. Their commitment to providing exceptional emergency medical care reflects the very best of Reading EMS and the City of Reading.

Today, our department mourns the heartbreaking loss of Officer Kristen Yeager, who made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to a call for service on May 29, 2026.

Officer Yeager served our community with courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication. She answered the call to protect and serve each day, placing the safety of others above her own. Her commitment to her badge, her fellow officers, and the citizens she served will never be forgotten.

We ask that you keep Officer Yeager’s family, friends, and our entire law enforcement family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten. As we spend time with family and friends this holiday weekend, we pause to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and pay tribute to those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy today.

During EMS Week, we are proud to recognize two outstanding members of the Reading Fire Department EMS Division who were selected for Reading Hospital’s first annual EMS Week ROSE (Recognition of Service Excellence) Award.

Lt. Craig Sweigart and Nikki McClintock were nominated by Emergency Department staff for their dedication, compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to patient care.

Lt. Sweigart was recognized for decades of service to the community and his passion for EMS that began at a young age and continues to inspire those around him today.

Nikki McClintock was honored for her compassion, positivity, teamwork, and the exceptional care she provides to patients every day.

We are incredibly proud to see their hard work and dedication recognized by our healthcare partners. Congratulations to both recipients, and thank you for representing Reading Fire Department EMS with excellence every day.
