School districts throughout Berks County recently honored this year’s 21 nominees for the Annie Sullivan Award. This recognition celebrates individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to supporting and promoting the understanding of students with disabilities within their schools and communities. The award is named after Annie Sullivan, a renowned educator best known for her work with Helen Keller.
The BCIU Early Intervention Program was proudly represented at the ceremony by 2026 nominee, Ms. Amy Slovick. Amy serves as a Lead Speech Therapist within Early Intervention, where she is widely recognized for her expertise, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the children and families she supports. She provides continuous guidance and support to her peers and plays an essential role in fostering collaboration and excellence across the program.
In addition to her clinical work, Amy oversees the Assistive Technology Team, helping to ensure that innovative tools and strategies are effectively implemented to meet the diverse needs of young learners. She is a respected voice in the field, frequently presenting on assistive technology at statewide initiatives and contributing to the advancement of best practices across Pennsylvania.
Amy’s nomination for the Annie Sullivan Award reflects her deep commitment to advocacy, inclusion, and empowering students with disabilities to reach their fullest potential. Her dedication, professionalism, and passion for early intervention make a lasting impact on the families she serves and the colleagues she inspires.
