The City and Reading Police Department have received multiple complaints regarding electric e-bikes operating on sidewalks, city streets, and city owned property affecting the safety of pedestrians and community.

The City of Reading would like to remind everyone, most e-bikes can only be operated on paths established for bicycles (Depending on bike classification). Operating off established paths is strictly prohibited. These rules are set in place to keep everyone safe and to protect our parks and roadways.

Parents, please remind your children to be respectful to pedestrians and to be extra cautious and safe when riding to avoid accidents and injuries.

The city will be looking into whether additional or changes to legislation needs to be adopted for these.

Givaudan Information

To clear up any information on the Givaudan site. The city has never owned, operated, or controlled the property. The construction project has been paused after doing additional environmental due diligence. We do not have direct answers to what the exact future plans for the site are. Those are best to be answered by the company, but the city remains committed to working with Givaudan or any company to maximize the best use for the site.
