Today, our community is grappling with the loss of Central Berks Regional Police Officer Kristen Yeager, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty last evening.
The officer's family and the emergency services community are in my thoughts, and I recognize the dedication and commitment they demonstrate daily.
I wish to acknowledge the invaluable assistance provided by our regional Fire Police at the scene last night. With no hesitation, these volunteers are there in a heartbeat to assist with scene security and traffic control.
I myself was there to assist at the traffic circle in Oley twp.
In honor of Officer Yeager's sacrifice, Governor Josh Shapiro has ordered the U.S. and Pennsylvania flags to be flown at half staff on Commonwealth grounds.
Having worked with Officer Yeager and experienced her professionalism firsthand, I know she will be greatly missed.

Rest in peace..

Answer the Call: Strengthening the Future of the Tri-County Fire Police Task Force

Volunteer emergency services across Pennsylvania are at a critical crossroads. Recruitment is declining. Retention is increasingly difficult. Experienced members are aging out faster than they are being replaced.

The impact is no longer theoretical—it is operational.

The Tri-County Fire Police Task Force is not immune to these challenges. However, it remains committed to maintaining the highest standard of service, professionalism, and readiness in support of fire, EMS, and law enforcement operations.

That commitment now requires action.

Our Mission, Our Responsibility

The Tri-County Fire Police Task Force exists to provide organized, disciplined, and effective support at emergency incidents and public events that exceed the capabilities of a single department.

Our personnel are deployed to:

Major fire incidents

Multi-agency emergency responses

Public safety details and large-scale events

Funeral escorts and honor guard assignments

Traffic and crowd control operations requiring coordinated manpower

We do not operate independently—we operate as a force multiplier, ensuring that firefighters, EMS providers, and law enforcement officers can perform their duties safely and without distraction.

Our role is defined by one priority:

Protect the scene. Protect the responders. Protect the public.

The Standard We Uphold

Membership in the Task Force is not symbolic. It carries responsibility, discipline, and accountability.

Our officers are expected to:

Operate under established command structures

Execute traffic and scene control with precision

Maintain situational awareness in dynamic environments

Represent their departments and this Task Force with professionalism

This is not a passive role. It requires individuals who are capable of making decisions, maintaining composure, and standing firm in high-pressure environments.

The Reality We Face

The facts are clear.

Our ranks—like many across Pennsylvania—are shrinking.

A significant portion of our experienced personnel have dedicated decades of service. Their knowledge, leadership, and operational awareness are invaluable. However, time is not on our side.

Without immediate and sustained recruitment efforts, we risk:

Reduced operational effectiveness

Increased strain on existing personnel

Compromised scene safety during large-scale incidents

This is not acceptable.

Recruitment Is a Priority—Not an Option

We are actively seeking individuals who are willing to step forward and serve.

You do not need prior firefighting experience.

You do need:

Commitment

Reliability

The ability to follow direction and operate within a team

A willingness to train and improve

We will provide the training, structure, and leadership necessary for you to succeed.

What we cannot provide is motivation.

That must come from you.

Retention Through Leadership and Accountability

Recruitment alone is not enough. Retention is achieved through engagement, leadership, and purpose.

The Task Force is committed to:

Integrating new members into active operations

Providing mentorship from experienced officers

Maintaining clear expectations and consistent communication

Recognizing performance and dedication

We do not recruit individuals to fill a roster—we develop personnel to fulfill a mission.

The Consequences of Inaction

If we fail to recruit and retain the next generation of Fire Police Officers, the consequences will be immediate and measurable:

Firefighters will be diverted from critical suppression operations

Law enforcement agencies will face increased demands on limited resources

Incident scenes will become more hazardous for both responders and the public

This is not a distant possibility. It is a foreseeable outcome.

A Direct Call to Serve

The Tri-County Fire Police Task Force is not asking for attention.

We are asking for commitment.

If you are capable of standing in adverse conditions, maintaining order in chaotic environments, and placing the safety of others above your own convenience, then there is a place for you here.

This is an opportunity to serve with purpose, to be part of a coordinated and professional team, and to make a direct impact on the safety of your community.

The Time to Act Is Now

The future of this Task Force—and the safety of the communities we serve—depends on those willing to step forward today.

We will continue to uphold our mission.

We will continue to support our partner agencies.

But we cannot do it alone.

Answer the call. Step forward. Serve with purpose.

**To Our Dedicated First Responders:**

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to every first responder who has braved this fierce snow storm to keep us safe.

To the firefighters, paramedics, police officers, EMS teams, snow plow operators, utility workers, and all emergency personnel who have worked tirelessly through blinding snow, freezing temperatures, and treacherous conditions — **thank you**. Your courage, skill, and selflessness have made an incredible difference during this challenging time.

You've responded to emergencies, cleared vital roads, rescued stranded motorists, restored power, and provided care when it was needed most. Because of your dedication, families have stayed safe, neighbors have been helped, and our community has come through this storm stronger.
I see your hard work, I appreciate your sacrifices, and I am truly grateful.

Thank you for everything you do — not just today, but every day

Stay safe out there, everyone — and again, thank you to all our heroes in uniform and high-visibility gear! ❄️🚒🚓🚑
