After our monthly startUP board meeting today, we made a stop at The Donut Den! 🍩

With all the hard work we’ve put into our small-class business so far, we decided we deserved a little treat!

Earlier this week, the startUP class had the pleasure of visiting Underwood Ammo and hearing from owner and founder Kevin and Operations Manager Isaac!

16 years ago, Kevin started his business in the basement of his home, and today, they’ve sold to 48 states and even Greece! 🇺🇸🌎

Kevin shared some great advice with us, including that “it’s a marathon, not a sprint.” He also emphasized the importance of creating environments where people can do their best work and actually want to come to work each day.

It was so cool to see the process of the Amo being made from start to finish. The process is very innovated and automated

We’re so thankful for the opportunity to learn from Kevin and Isaac and hear firsthand what it takes to build and grow a business!

startUP students dressing their best at Sparta High School Homecoming! Business partners who also know how to have fun together!!

On Tuesday, startUP had the opportunity to visit Gilster-Mary Lee Corp. in Chester!

We had the pleasure of meeting with President Tom Welge, who shared valuable insight and advice with us before we headed out for a tour of the factory. 🏭

One piece of advice that really stood out was to never miss a phone call, email, or voicemail. You never know who is trying to reach you or what opportunity that connection could lead to. Something small could turn into a big deal!

One of the coolest parts of the day? Getting to eat fresh marshmallows straight off the production line! 🤤 You’re seriously missing out if you’ve never had a fresh marshmallow!

We also got to see wheat cereal production and follow the process from start to finish, from cooking the wheat to packaging it into boxes. It was so interesting to see everything that happens behind the scenes! 🌾

A huge thank-you to Gilster-Mary Lee and Mr. Welge for welcoming us and sharing your time and knowledge with our class!

Yesterday, startUP had the opportunity to spend the morning at Complete Technology Solutions in Sparta with Mrs. Kelly Ethington! 🤝

She gave us so much insight into AI and how it may shape the future of the workplace, assist us in our careers, and change the way we work.

We also dove into leadership, communication, and teamwork—and one message that really stuck with us was: “You don’t have to be the ‘leader’ to lead.” 💡

We’re so grateful for opportunities like this that challenge us to think differently, learn from others, and prepare for the future!
