Thought I would let you know about the event I am hosting this Saturday. We have a short introduction and create a craft then eat lunch. All of the participants have either had a loved one die by su***de, have had a family member with suicidal tendencies, or been suicidal themselves.

Locations: Red Wing Caribou Coffee Upstairs meeting room, Summer months- Red Wing Bay Point Park(by Volleyball court)
Time: 5:30-6:30 (Times subject to change per attendance)
2024 Dates: August 12th, September 9th, October 14th, November 12th, December 9th.
The group is open for participants to drop-in, there are no rules regarding regular attendance at this time. A call, text or email- redwingsu***[email protected] to confirm attendees prior to the meeting is preferred. Please respect the time of other attendees and the facilitator.

If there are no attendees by 5:45, the group will not be held that night unless arrangements are made with the facilitator.

Grief is different for everyone either way but when su***de is involved, kids seem to hold back and shy away from sharing their stories because of the stigma surrounding mental illness and su***de. Sometimes children’s grief goes unseen, unheard, and unsupported.
Su***de makes a mess of everything it touches, and we do not want our children living with grief and not expressing it.
Kids can speak openly and honestly with other kids when they feel comfortable. With all having a connection to su***de, it clears tension.

In 2018 I started this youth group for children affected by su***de after knowing my own children had nowhere to be supported by their peers in the area.

I am not a psychologist or a mental health professional, with grief, it is sometimes easier to talk to and have a 3rd party listen and not judge the other issues surrounding the child at home or school.

I am a Facilitator and act as a participant along with the children and teens. We have fun, within the rules and guidelines set, children and teens usually feel comfortable talking with someone who relates to their grief.
If you have a child or know one who has had a loved one, friend, or classmate die by su***de, please let them know about our meetings by sharing.

We had a great turnout for the night before Easter! 'Rock Of Ages' Fundraiser Dance was a hit, I had a blast, hope you all did too!
