Individual Hope Hero Award,

According to the book, Hope Rising, How the Science of Hope can Change Your Life, “Hope is the belief your future can be brighter than your past and you have the power to make it so.” Think about that. When you look at the first part, “Your future can be brighter than your past.” That is optimism. But you add that, “You have the power to make it so.” And that adds accountability. Our first ever Individual Hope Hero Award helps families, children and survivors find the willpower to take control of their future.

Our recipient has changed the landscape for survivors of child abuse, sexual assault and domestic violence. This individual is a champion for people in our community that have experienced Adverse Childhood Experience. He is our Camp HOPE - Pathways doctor, he is a pediatrician at Shasta Community Health Center, he is involved with the Micro-Shelter project, he founded the Shasta Community Forensic Care Team and the Post-Strangulation Clinic. He is the Forensic Sexual Assault Examiner and was instrumental in the development of the Children’s Legacy Center. Dr. Sean Dugan’s list of service to our community would take too much time to list everything he has accomplished. Pathways to Hope for Children's Board Chair, Dr. Dugan accept the first ever Individual Hope Hero Award from Pathways to Hope for Children's Executive Director, Michael Burke

Community Hope Hero Award

At Camp HOPE America - Pathways we tell our campers the definition of hope is believing in yourself, others and believe in your dreams.

The recipient of our first ever Community Hope Hero Award does just this. This organization shows how they Believe in Others by being there for our community. They recently awarded $300,000 to area business and non-profits to help with the devastating effects of COVID-19. Their community fund has donated over $3.5 million to non-profits since its inception.

Believing in Themselves is steep in their traditions. If everyone, every organization and every government planned for the 7th generation the world would be a different place.

And when it comes to Believing in Dreams the Redding Rancheria has visions for a strong and vibrant future.

By now you have guessed our first ever Community Hope Hero goes to The Redding Rancheria. The Redding Rancheria Tribal Council not only supports our efforts with funding they walk the talk. Tribal Council Member Dani Hayward is on our board of directors, their team has been present at Camp HOPE over the years. Their continued support has provided pathways to hope and healing for families and children in our community. Dani Hayward and Chief Executive Officer for the Redding Rancheria, Tracy Edwards accept the award from Pathways to Hope for Children’s Executive Director, Michael Burke

Our first ever Monte Carlo Fundraiser was a huge success. We enjoyed a fun evening with an amazing group of HopeGivers. The night was highlighted by a great meal by the Redding Rancheria & Win-River Resort and Casino staff, an evening of dancing and entertainment by Bartosh, a live auction that saw quite a few items go for more than $2,000 each, an engaging silent auction, lots of Black Jack and Three Card Poker along with Plinko, a live art demonstration and so much more.

The evening was capped with a presentation on the impact of Camp HOPE – Pathways and two former campers and now counselors shared their journey. Then the room had the opportunity to send Shasta County youth to Camp HOPE – Pathways and more than 15 youth will be able to attend this summer camping program and year-round mentoring program because of the generosity of the crowd. We hope to see you all again next year!

A great opportunity for families with 4th graders!

A great opportunity for families with 4th graders!

New School Year, New 4th Grade Entrance Passes…

The National Park Service is issuing new fourth grade passes for this school year. This popular program enables 4th graders and other members of their vehicle to get into the National Park System and other federal recreation lands for free for the entire year! The program remains the same as in previous years: 4th graders complete the online activity, print a unique paper voucher, and exchange the voucher for the plastic pass at any interagency site that issues the National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass (such as the Whiskeytown Visitor Center) for fourth grade students. Please visit www.everykidoutdoors.gov, complete the activity, and print out the paper voucher.

At Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, either the paper voucher or the plastic pass can be displayed on the dashboard of a vehicle for free entrance. The voucher or plastic pass must be displayed in the vehicle the student is traveling in when visiting the park.

Please tell others about this exciting, educational fourth-grade student program!

Image Description: three 4th graders are all smiles while showing off their 4th Grade Entrance Pass. An NPS interpretive park ranger is also all smiles.

Our Story

Pathways to Hope for Children is Shasta County’s Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council was established in 1987 and serves as an umbrella for a wide range of projects throughout Shasta County that offer community outreach, youth development, family support, and child abuse prevention education (such as child abuse reporting workshops) and awareness activities.

Family Resource Center at 2280 Benton Drive- Build C, offers case management, parent education, diapers and access to computers and printers. Drop-in services are available Mondays,Wednesday and Friday or call to make an appointment. Services are free for all caregivers of children up to age 18.

The Pathway Parent Partners Program provides case management, hosts family nights at local preschools, and provides evidence-based parenting education. Children and families are identified through assessments, self-referrals, and preschool attendance records. The Community Parent Partner Program serves families with children 0-5 referred from Shasta County Children and Family Services. Parent Partners work with low-risk abuse case families and connect them with community-based organizations such as counseling, drug rehabilitation and other family-strength companies.

The SafeCare Program is an evidence-based parent-training curriculum for parents who are at risk or have been reported for maltreatment. Trained professionals work with at-risk families in their home environments to improve parents' skills. Program components include Parent-Child/Parent-Infant Interactions, Home Safety, and Health. The Triple P - Positive Parenting Program is a parenting and family support strategy. Triple P strategies help parents develop a positive relationship with their child, increase desirable behaviors, and teach new skills and behaviors.

Let’s take back 2020 and show it who’s boss! The Shasta Holiday’s 2020 food donation challenge is a fun opportunity to collect food by challenging a friend or business to match your 20 cans of food donation. Your 20, their 20=2020. All you have to do is film a short video stating “I’m taking the Shasta Holiday’s 2020 challenge by donating 20 cans of food to __________, and I’m challenging __________ to do the same” Make sure you post the video to the Shasta Holidays, Shasta Thanksgiving, or Shasta Christmas page and tag the person/business you want to challenge. The most creative and entertaining videos will get some very special treatment so let’s take back 2020 the Shasta Strong way!

PLEASE SHARE with hashtag #handsoffchloe This man WILLIAM RAY PALMER is a 2 striker felon, he just did 10 years out of a 17 year sentence, for beating up his pregnant wife twice at the time. He goes by BILLY PALMER on facebook. JUDGE BIGILLOW JUST PUT THIS MAN WILLIAM aka "BILLY", ON A NO-CONTACT ORDER WITH CHLOE SEALEE, SHE IS 9 YEARS OLD! This man is now engaged to my husband's daughter's mother. My husband's daughter is 9 years old, her name is Chloe. Now Chloe told her father a week ago that William is always hurting her when he plays with her. She says that she doesn't want to wrestle or play with him but he will grab her and wrestle with her anyways. She told her mom, and her mom tells her "its ok Billy just doesn't know his own strength" Chloe says that 2 different times her mom was sleeping while she was laying in bed with her mom and billy walked up and pulled Chloe out of her moms bed really hard with no warning, so he could lay down. Chloe tried telling her mom but her mom just excuses billy being rough with Chloe and hurting her. Chloe also said that billy tripped her once when she was running but he says it was an "accident". It had left a painful spot on her ankle but didn't bruise so we couldn't get pictures when she showed us. Chloe says hes always saying the N word and really hates black people, and she doesn't like it because she has black family. Ethically this is a smart little girl who knows better, and knows being hateful is wrong. She is also asian bi-racial. Her father is fighting hard for her in court right now and her mother is still having this man sleeping over at night with chloe home. We have pictures of him leaving the home. We want to bring awareness to the public about this man, and how dangerous he is, in case anything else happeneds to Chloe. His actions need to be exposed! Billy's statement before going to prison was "i don't care if i spend the rest of my life in prison because it's worth it". Here are 2 press releases on his charges. Please Share #handsoffchloe
