Today's Trail Trivia question was: The tragic story of the Donner Party is one of the most well-known stories from the California Trail. The Donner Party became stuck in the snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains for several months in 1846 because of a decision they made much earlier on their journey. On the Central Overland Trail, The Sand Springs Station, is a historic site in Churchill County, Nevada that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. A Pony Express station existed there in 1860. The ruins are located within the boundaries of the Sand Mountain Recreation Area.

Would you like to drive an emigrant trail from its beginning to end? Would you like to see and vicariously experience some of what the mid-1800’s travelers saw and felt? If so, you need the Emigrant Trails West Series of Guidebooks or Driving Guides to the emigrant trails written by Trails West volunteers. These guides will allow almost anyone with a modern SUV to explore many scenic roads both on and off pavement. Many families have been enjoying these guides for years and it’s a great way to spend a day or more driving through some beautiful country. Visit our website for details
