Language Adventure-Kids

Language Adventure-Kids Spanish for kids! Language Adventure offers one of a kind, impactful and stimulatingly relevant conversational Spanish instruction for school age children.
(1)

Traditionally, students begin learning a language by learning vocabulary for objects, directions, positions, colors, and numbers etc. by pointing at pictures and other manipulatives and memorizing their names. Our program takes a different approach. Students begin their language adventure learning the most frequently used verbs, along with basic vocabulary if they have had no prior experience. If students have had some Spanish knowledge, they will learn the basic and more advanced verbs and build on the vocabulary they already have. Verbs drive language and therefore, students will immediately begin to learn how to apply this vocabulary in relevant conversation in class. Additionally, students will be given a very simple tool that will enable them to continue creating relevant conversation away from class with the verb that is being studied. Parents and siblings will have the opportunity to use this tool to practice the verb driven conversation at home and on the go. Our program encourages parent, child and teacher to work together in the development of this second language. The idea behind this is to promote an immersion environment. Children and adults experience the thrill of immediate understanding and communication. Its easy and its fun! Through our program, your child will also learn American Sign Language at the same time he/she is learning Spanish. This enables us to harness the power of Total Physical Response (TPR) to support and advance your child's learning. TPR (Total Physical Response) is a language learning method based on the coordination of speech and action. Language Adventure! was founded by native Spanish speaker Elke Brautigam, a certified bilingual elementary teacher with over 10 years of classroom experience, college professor and corporate instructor. Driven by the inability to find an on-site Spanish program that offered consistent, real world instruction for her elementary age sons, she set out to develop a quality, financially accessible Spanish language program targeted at children ages 5 to 12 that could be taught in an in-home setting or on-site at elementary schools, daycares, churches and similar organizations. Positive Parenting Solutions

"Children with positive self-esteem tend to recognize their abilities and feel proud about what they are able to. When a child’s self-esteem is positive and well balanced, they aren’t afraid of making mistakes because they recognize within themselves the ability to try again (or to quit because it feels right to do so). Most of all, they are able to manage worries, frustrations and the learning process pretty well. Especially when parents are able to encourage and support them along the way.

The way we parent and communicate with our children can certainly have an impact on their self-esteem. There are parenting practices we can strive towards that can help our children maintain (and boost) a positive sense of self."

July's camp was aimed at teaching the kids Spanish via the beautiful colors, music and artistry that is so prevalent throughout Hispanic countries. They learned about the beautiful tradition of Mexico's Day of the Dead, whereby loved ones remember those that who have passed. The kids had a fantastic time and were enriched by what they learned! They had many creative outlets, did a lot of dancing, singing, running and playing all while learning! Fue un bello tiempo/It was a beautiful time!

One of the beauties of teaching is that you never know what kind of life a class will take. So far each one of our camps this summer has taken on its very own unique and special rhythm! We have one Spanish camp left the week of Aug. 4 - 8. I am ever amazed at what a blessing each of the children that enter my life, in one way or another, are. It is such a joy and inspiration to be able to plant the seed of another language in them and watch them grow, as well as nurture the ones who have already started their "language adventure". :)
