Bee Sustainable

Bee Sustainable Welcome to Bee Sustainable. We're a non-profit organization teaching homesteading basics, bee-friendly beekeeping & Permaculture techniques.

Recently founded to teach self-sufficiency skills & homesteading techniques to residents in the greater Kalamazoo/Gull Lake area. We center our education around Permaculture principles. Our goal for 2015 is to establish a community garden in Richland & host educational work parties in several locations throughout Spring, Summer & Fall. Surplus from this year's harvest will be donated to a local food pantry.

Awesome!

We’re joining the convoy of 2.1 million beehives and heading down to the 1.5 million acres of almond trees in the Central Valley of California.

It’s the biggest pollination event in the world, and certainly is a big mix of emotions for me.

Acres as far as the eye can see full of golden bees and pungent blossoms, what’s not to love?

Well - it’s one kind of bee, and one kind of plant.

And that’s a problem, because nature (and farming) need diversity to function properly.

This year is a little different than past trips to the “amends,” I’m not coming down to work the bees.

I’m heading down to learn from my friends at Burroughs Family Orchards about a collaborative regenerative ag project they’ve got going on, and I couldn’t be more excited.

I was in the “Soil Health Academy” with the Burroughs family a few years ago, and I’m SO STOKED that they are putting the principles into action on their land.

I’ll take pages and pages of notes, and share what I find out with you 🤓🌿🐝
