My family’s path from freedom in Africa to enslavement and emancipation in the American South and on to Civil Rights activism in Richmond, CA
Join us for a special presentation by Patricia Mapps, From Africa to Richmond, on Monday, February 28 at 7pm. Through archival research, oral history, and DNA, Patricia has traced her ancestors to Africa and uncovered a story of enslavement, emancipation, the decision to purchase and live on the land they “tamed” when enslaved, their transition to farm laborers and then to farmers, and Civil Rights activism in Richmond.
In this special online event, Patricia will share the story her research has uncovered in a presentation which will be followed by a Q&A session.

AUDITION NOTICE

Music by Evan Alparone
Book and lyrics by Victoria Siegel
Directed by Kim Bromley
Presented by Masquers Playhouse In Point Richmond, CA

The Canterbury Tales and the legend of Camelot intertwine with today’s internet culture in this post- pandemic story-within-a-story telling of the marriage of Sir Gawain. All these stories culminate in an acknowledgement of what women most desire.

One of Geoffrey Chaucer’s most beloved characters, The Wife of Bath, narrates this tale both in dialogue and song, aided by an ensemble of various modern day students, the pilgrims of The Canterbury Tales and the knights and ladies of the Round Table.

12 -15 characters – All ages, genders and ethnicities

Prepare: 1 minute story; read from a fairytale or children’s book or tell a story of your own with a
“Once upon a time...” vibe. Also, prepare a song: 34 bars, something upbeat and fun.

NOTE: All persons entering Masquers Playhouse must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
