As a Type 1 diabetic, I’ve felt the weight of wondering how I’d afford the next insulin vial or supply shipment. I’ve been lucky — but not because the system worked. I made it through by relying on help from others, including donations through social media just to afford basic medical needs.

Thousands of Kentuckians with diabetes depend on Medicaid to stay alive. It helps cover:
• Insulin and testing supplies
• Regular checkups
• Emergency care when things go wrong

But the bill my opponent supports — the so-called Big Beautiful Bill — would gut Medicaid funding, closing the door on people who don’t have a backup plan.

Let’s be clear: these cuts won’t just hurt “someone else.” They’ll hurt working people, parents, kids, and folks who are already fighting just to stay healthy.

No one should have to post online and hope for donations to stay alive in this state.

I won’t support policies that make life harder for the people I’ve stood beside in hospital lines and pharmacy counters.

I just want to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years in my work advocating for diabetes awareness and affordable insulin. Your encouragement, your voices, and your passion have made a real difference — and I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished together.

Now, I’m taking the next step by running for State Representative, because I believe we need leaders who truly understand the challenges our communities face — and who are willing to fight for real solutions.

If you believe in standing up for affordable healthcare, strong public schools, and a better future for all of us, I invite you to join my campaign page and be part of this journey. Together, we can keep making a difference!

It shouldn't cost this much just to stay alive. In the USA and across the globe, people with diabetes are spending huge sums of money to afford the insulin and supplies they need to manage their diabetes and get through the day.

𝗔𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲: 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗗𝗼𝗴

After 16 months in training, many hours of work, countless pounds of treats, and lots of ups and downs - Rooney is ready to begin searching for her perfect family. She is our first Service Dog to be matched with someone in need, regardless of their financial abilities - we are hoping to be able to match her for free. If you or someone you know is in need of a diabetic alert dog, please fill out an application on our website (mddogs.org or application here: https://forms.gle/rPu1RWvvNcpbALUY8). Feel free to share this with anyone you know!

This is just the start of the matching process as we have a mandatory online class, will conduct interviews, and then schedule home visits and trial training sessions to find the best fit for our chocolate Lab. During these next few weeks or months I’ll also continue finishing her training and finalize whether she will be an in-home alert dog to focus on night alerts or a full public access alert dog.

The video in the comments shows many of her obedience behaviors, and over the coming days I’ll share some outdoor videos and public access demonstrations as well. She will also be working more on her low blood sugar alerts and once she is matched with someone I can tailor her final training to their needs.

I am so excited to start this process and begin talking with the community about this pup to find the person that she will help keep safe.

(Those who are on the MD Dogs email list have already received the application - so if you’ve already applied, don’t worry! We just want to ensure those who aren’t on the list also receive an opportunity to inquire).
