The Virginia State Police extends our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Captain Becky Jones, as well as the Orange County Sheriff's Office VA - Jason C. Smith, Sheriff, as they mourn her passing.

Captain Jones dedicated 26 years of service to the Orange County community and touched countless lives throughout her career. She was close to the Virginia State Police family, and her commitment to public service and her community will not be forgotten.

Our thoughts are with all those who knew and loved her as they navigate this difficult time and honor her lasting legacy.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office would like to share the arrangements for Captain Becky Jones.

A public visitation will be held on Saturday, June 20th, at Johnson Funeral Home in Locust Grove, Virginia, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family, friends, members of the community, and our partners in public safety are welcome to attend and pay their respects to a woman who dedicated 26 years of her life to serving Orange County.

The funeral service and interment will be private and reserved for Captain Jones's family, Sheriff's Office personnel, and their immediate families. We appreciate everyone's understanding as the family gathers to honor Becky in a more personal setting.

Captain Jones touched countless lives throughout her career, and the outpouring of support from our community and fellow public safety agencies has been a tremendous source of comfort during this difficult time. We know many people would like the opportunity to honor her service, and we invite those wishing to do so to join us during the visitation.

Yesterday, the Virginia State Police joined traffic safety leaders, community advocates, and public safety partners for Virginia's 100 Safest Days of Summer event. ☀️🚔

We extend our sincere appreciation to Tammy Gweedo McGee and the Gweedo Memorial Foundation for inviting us to be part of this meaningful initiative focused on reducing crashes, promoting safe driving habits, and saving lives on Virginia's roadways. 💙

As summer travel increases and more young drivers take to the road, we encourage everyone to:

🚗 Buckle up every trip, every time.
📵 Put the phone away and stay focused on driving.
🚦 Obey speed limits and traffic signals.
🚫 Never drive impaired or ride with an impaired driver.
👥 Minimize distractions and stay alert.

Every crash is preventable. Every life matters.

Together, we can help make Virginia's roads safer this summer and beyond.

The Virginia State Police extends our deepest condolences to the Texas Department of Public Safety , the Texas Highway Patrol and the family of Trooper Sergio Romero.

We honor Trooper Romero’s dedicated service and ultimate sacrifice. We hold his family, friends, and fellow troopers in our thoughts during this difficult time and remain grateful for his commitment to serving others.

🕊️

It is with great sadness that DPS announces the death of Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Sergio Romero.

Trooper Romero was attempting to conduct a traffic stop along US-287 near Childress, around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, when a truck-tractor semi-trailer pulled out in front of him, causing his patrol unit to collide with the vehicle. Trooper Romero died on scene.

Trooper Romero answered the call to serve each day with honor and remained steadfast in his commitment to protecting and serving Texans. The DPS family will never forget the ultimate sacrifice he made in service of this state.
