🚨🪧Protest tomorrow (Thursday) hosted and led by several unions and local chapters. Vetoing of this bill makes it so that Virginia public workers are prevented from negotiating their working conditions and pay rates based on the whim of the locality. The veto also means not giving workers a seat at decision-making tables on policies that affect them directly.

Workers Rights are essential rights.

Statement from VA50501:

Today the Supreme Court of Virginia just told over 3.1 million Virginians that their vote didn’t count in a 4-3 ruling that struck down the People’s Will.

Never forget this administration started the fight, having Texas’ redistricting done last year that had no voter input. But unlike them both California and Virginia decided to respond, but did so with the voters at the forefront – allowing people to vote and make the decision.

They feared the people’s voice so much that leading into Virginia’s referendum vote dark money poured into the Commonwealth, a PAC funded by anti-worker rights billionaire Peter Thiel used $76 million to try and sway the voters with misinformation. But most voters saw through the propaganda and lies, and voted to pass the new proposed map.

But this administration doesn’t like to play fair. So before the decision was even handed down by the Supreme Court of Virginia they had already started doing new additional redistricting efforts in other states WITHOUT voter input once more. Following Virginia’s vote Florida, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee all looked to do redistricting for Republicans without an election, and in some cases without the input of their state representatives.

While this is a blow to efforts to keep this executive branch overreach in check by having more representatives in Congress that won’t just bow and curtsy to a wannabe king, it also means they’re afraid. They’re afraid that people aren’t buying their lies or propaganda. They’re afraid of our overwhelming numbers. And they’re afraid they’ll get voted out for ignoring the People’s Will.

Because we will vote them out.

This includes letting Governor Spanberger know to not renew the terms for Supreme Court of Virginia Justice D. Arthur Kelsey whose term is up in 2027. He cast the deciding vote to strike down the People’s Will and throw out over 3.1 million votes cast by Virginians.

Remember, there are more of us than them. They know it. We know it. And we won’t let them forget this country is run by The People and not by a king.

As always, we’ll see you in the streets!

🪧 Friday, May 1st we’ll be at Abner Clay Park where a collective has been hosting an annual event celebrating International Workers’ Day for decades. VA50501 will have a pop-up food bank where you can drop off items if you can and/or pick up items you need. Anything leftover will be donated to local food banks. We will also have a free next day meal available.

If you are not able to make it, please consider donating to Food Not Bombs (last image has a QR code and link in our bio.) They will be making the free meals for folx and donations will help support their efforts.

ICE is still active across the Commonwealth, and still taking community members. We’re amplifying this local migrant family’s current situation that lost three household breadwinners in one fell swoop. One of ones taken was the husband and father of the two minor children left behind. He was deported FIVE DAYS LATER - no due process, no trial, no ability to fight his abduction, and no way to help his family.

If you’re able to help some, please donate to the pool fund being collected. If you’re not able to donate, please help share and spread the word about this fundraiser.
