Thank you so much for the delicious Thanksgiving meal! It was a true blessing for two disabled ladies. Every bite was outstanding, and I'm truly thankful that your outreach reached us. May your people be blessed, and your organization be successful.

National Nonprofit Day continues! As we continue spotlighting some of the amazing nonprofits that serve Hardeeville residents, we cannot forget to thank Antioch Educational Center and Lowcountry Legal Volunteers for their diligent and earnest service. Thank you! These photos are from the July 16th event that took place in Ridgeland. The Antioch Educational Center hosted the Lowcountry Legal Volunteers and the University of South Carolina School of Law as they provided free legal assistance to residents.

Antioch Educational Center will be holding a press conference today at 11:00 a.m. at 7557 W. Main Street, Ridgeland, SC. The "Antioch Express" Team will share important information about the agency's new transportation shuttles.

"The goal of the Antioch Express program is to provide alternative and affordable means of transportation for citizens working in Jasper and southern Beaufort County (Bluffton and Hilton Head Island)."
Look who stopped by to show us their new van! Jackie O'Bannon and Darryl Owens, of Antioch Educational Center, surprised us with a visit this morning. The new van is one of two 25-passenger vans purchased through a grant from the Community Foundation. The vans will transport workers from Jasper County to their jobs in Beaufort County. This not only addresses the challenge of finding reliable transportation but, by providing convenient routes and times, results in less time commuting and more time with their families. Win-win-win!!
We have much to share with you...

When COVID-19 was declared a pandemic, many of our neighbors experienced job losses, evictions, food insecurity, remote learning challenges and more.

With the help of many generous donors - including so many of you who follow us here - we responded with the Lowcountry Community COVID-19 Response Fund.

One year later, we’re reflecting on the work that’s been done through this fund, and how our community has come together to raise, thus far, nearly $700,000. Over the past 12 months, this money has been distributed, through grants, to 43 frontline nonprofit agencies - serving the Lowcountry residents who are struggling the most.

This work, and the generous support of people like you, has had a profound impact on our community. So even as we continue to address pandemic-related fallout, we believe it's important to mark the milestones of this past year.

In the coming month we look forward to sharing with you the stories of lives that have been touched - as well as the many successes and challenges local nonprofits have been confronted with throughout this pandemic.

We thank you in advance for sharing in our journey. It's a shared journey.

We recently awarded more than $211,500 as part of our twice-a-year competitive grant process. The recipients this cycle were: Antioch Educational Center, Bluffton-Jasper County Volunteers in Medicine, Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra and Neighborhood Outreach Connection.

The four grants focus on making an impact in our community - and directly supporting our efforts to address social and racial injustice - by addressing workforce transportation challenges, providing dental services to the uninsured, promoting Gullah heritage and culture, and advancing educational support for at-risk children.
