It has come to our attention today that inaccurate information is being circulated regarding our Village tree-watering program.
Beginning in 2023, for the first time, the Village contracted to water new trees for a period of two years after planting to ensure their success. This year, the bid for watering trees exceeded the budgeted amount, which, by law, requires the Village to reject all bids and rebid the work. The new bid is due this Monday, June 8th, and is scheduled to be awarded by the Village Council on Wednesday, June 10th. All contractors who have picked up bid packages have been advised of the immediate start date once the bid is awarded.
During this period, the Village Parks Division has been monitoring tree health in the Village and addressing trees as needed. We experienced significant rainfall on Memorial Day weekend, and rain is forecast for this weekend as well.
Should any property owner with a Village tree on their property wish to add water to a gator bag affixed to the bottom of a tree, they may feel free to do so until the contractor is assigned next week.
Rest assured the Village of Ridgewood has invested significantly in the planting of trees to reestablish the tree canopy in town, and we are committed to ensuring the health and vibrancy of our newly planted trees here in the Village.
