Every time we recognize another Veteran of the Month, it becomes more apparent that our veterans’ service never truly ends.

We saw that once again with tonight’s honoree, Marine Corps veteran Michael Perry. After serving our country and representing the United States across the globe, Michael began a 20-year career in law enforcement. And even after that, he continued serving his community in Wallington as a Special Law Enforcement Officer.

Thank you, Michael, for your service to our country and for the many ways you’ve continued to make a difference in our communities. We are grateful for your dedication and commitment to service.

I am proud to recognize United States Marine Corps veteran Michael Perry as our September Veteran of the Month!

Michael enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1994, rising to the rank of Sergeant and serving with the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines. His service included deployments to Okinawa, Korea, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. After completing active duty, he continued serving with the New Jersey Army National Guard.

Perry then dedicated more than 21 years to law enforcement in Bergen County, serving as a Juvenile Detective and School Resource Officer, a member of the S.W.A.T. team, a Sniper/Observer, fi****ms instructor, and in numerous other specialized assignments. His service earned him both a Bergen County Valor Award and a Life Saving Award.

Even after retiring in 2021, his commitment to service continued. Today, he is with the Wallington Police Department as a Special Law Enforcement Officer, helping protect and support students and families in the Wallington school community.

For more than three decades, Michael Perry has answered the call to serve his country and his community. We are proud to honor his extraordinary record of service and recognize him our Veteran of the Month.

Today was the State Medal Ceremony at the Paramus Veterans Memorial Home, where Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell and members of our congressional delegation recognized 57 men and women who served our country with courage and distinction.

We are grateful for their service and sacrifice, and proud to honor these veterans who answered the call to serve our nation.

Today, we gathered to celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day and raise the Ukrainian flag, celebrating our incredible Ukranian community—including our performers: Angelina Vepryk and Volodymyr Livel!

We reaffirm our support for Ukraine and its right to be a free and sovereign nation. And we will continue to stand with the Ukrainian people as they defend their freedom and future.

Great evening celebrating James Zaconie as our Veteran of the Month for August. From serving in the U.S. Navy to more than 50 years with the Township of Washington Fire Department, Jimmy has dedicated his life to serving his country, his fellow first responders, and our community. Thank you, Jimmy, for a lifetime of extraordinary service and commitment to Bergen County.

Joined my colleague Tracy Silna Zur ’s Saturday Morning Group, our Democratic Chairman Paul Juliano, County Executive Jim Tedesco, and the entire Victory 2026 team for an evening of service assembling Smile Packs for neighbors in need and kicking off our Summer of Service. The tremendous outpouring of support was a great reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together!

Happy to join Augie at the Fort Lee VFW to celebrate his 100th birthday! Augie was our Veteran of the Month in November 2024, and it was wonderful to celebrate this incredible milestone with someone whose great personality and strength continue to inspire us all. Happy 100th, Augie!
