⚠️Winter Weather Update⚠️
(Mother Nature Is Not Playing Around)

The National Weather Service is forecasting 1–4 inches of snow for our area beginning tomorrow and continuing into Saturday.

From Friday night through Saturday night, conditions will get downright cold. What to expect:
• Bitterly cold temperatures
• Wind chills in the negative teens (bundle up!)
• Wind gusts of 25–30 mph

‼️IMPORTANT (please read):‼️
▪️Because of these conditions, Jackson County intends to have the warming shelter available Friday through Sunday nights.
▪️The warming shelter will be on standby and is not automatically open.
➡️ Anyone needing access MUST call 304-372-2000 first to request shelter.
This helps us stretch limited county resources and make sure the shelter can be safely staffed when it’s needed most.

Huge thanks to Calvary for once again opening their doors and supporting our community during severe weather, we truly appreciate them!

⚠ ICE STORM RISK ⚠ - In my opinion, IF there are going to be areas that receive 1/4" of ice or more, here is the general area where it's going to happen.👇

A LOT MORE people than this will see freezing rain at some point in their journey tonight/tomorrow, but here's where I think it will likely be the steadiest and/or most prolonged. 0.25" of ice is where POWER OUTAGES become an issue, and if places start getting more than that then large limbs may start falling (and so-on).

This doesn't guarantee it will happen, I'm just positioning where it's likely were it to happen, for alerting purposes. YOU STILL HAVE TIME before things start from west to east around 4-5pm.

Folks in this zone have one hope when the ice starts -- for it to keep going into plain old rain. This would indicate meltable temperatures at the surface which will (even if you do get a concerning amount of ice) try to dial it back. Another saving grace is that the winds (outside of elevated spots on this map) will be "relatively light"... We don't want those branches to rattle or sway with ice on them.
