I recently had the opportunity to meet with several constituents in District 3 to talk about the transportation safety issues happening in their neighborhood. They even had some pretty scary videos caught on their home cameras (look at the videos in the comments).

Immediate-term solution: I put out a couple dozen “Drive 25, Stay Alive” signs to catch the attention of speeders and remind them that our kids are here and deserve to be able to play in their neighborhoods safely.

Short/medium-term solution: Riverton staff is currently looking at all the options - striping, crosswalks, flashing speed signs, flashing stop signs, and more.

Long-term solution: Once the construction is finished, the city will prepare, finalize, and officially complete a speed study, which will give the city concrete data to make realistic improvements to safety on the road.

Memorial Day is always a special day for me and my family.

Sara has been playing with the Utah Pipe Band for a couple of years now, and every Memorial Day the band plays at multiple cemeteries across the valley. I was able to attend a couple with Sara and then I joined my City Council colleagues (and my dad!!) at the Riverton Memorial Day event.

Thankful for all those who served and sacrificed for our beautiful country.

Wanted to update everyone. You have probably received the advisory from the City to boil water due to a potential cross contamination issue. My understanding is there was a home with an illegal cross connection between culinary and secondary water systems. Something went wrong with the connection and secondary water back-flowed into the culinary system.

We have incredible staff who found out due to detection of reverse flow through our smart meter software and were able to quickly resolve it. At this time, nothing has been detected in our culinary water system, but out of an abundance of caution, we want residents to follow the boil advisory.

The standard process is that it takes approximately 48 hours for sample results to confirm there is no contamination.

Earlier this year, I was invited to speak to a youth group at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in West Jordan about serving your community. It went really well, and after, they all asked what they could do to serve.

Yesterday, these youth, their parents, and my colleague councilwoman Smith all got together to place flags at every veterans grave in the Riverton cemetery! It was an amazing act of service, especially seeing all the tributes to the people who gave it all for our freedoms - including my Grandpa Amundsen, who served in the Philippines during WW2.

The fact that these kids took two hours out of their Saturday, no complaints, and were all excited to serve really filled my heart.

I was able to write this month’s City Council message about preserving Riverton City’s history!

Councilmember Alexander Johnson reflects on Riverton’s history, family roots, and the importance of preserving the city’s heritage as it grows.

Sara and I were able to walk in the Riverton 5K this morning and cheer on the half marathon finishers. It was a great way to enjoy the beautiful, sunny day and connect with residents!

As a proud South Hills White Tiger, last night’s Council meeting was a real treat.

We had the opportunity to recognize two outstanding students and one incredible teacher from South Hills Middle School as part of this month’s Riverton Choice Awards for Excellence in Education.

Congratulations to Mr. Brian Larson, James Varga, and Emery Roberts for exemplifying the very best of what it means to be a Riverton resident and a White Tiger! (And to my HS gov. Teacher Mr. Groethe, who’s now principal at South Hills) Riverton is lucky to have you! 🐯

Last night, the City held our first Skate Park Subcommittee meeting with the public. I really enjoyed hearing from residents on their vision for a rebuilt park. I made my stance clear that I believe:

1. The land where the old skatepark was will stay in Riverton City’s hands and will not be privately developed.

2. The City needs to build a new skate park. The point of the subcommittee is to make sure we do it the right way, make sure residents input is heard, and we make a truly cool and well-loved park.

Excited to share more as this unfolds!

Last night, I was proud to support District 3 resident Joey Marzo for appointment to the Riverton Planning Commission.

Joey earned unanimous support from the Council, and I am so excited to see him bring common-sense, level headed thinking to how we plan Riverton’s future growth and development.

Thanks for stepping up to serve our city, and congrats Joey!

Had a great first City Council meeting last night, where I made my first motion and was appointed to the Jordan River Commison, as well as the Riverton Skate Park Subcommittee along with Councilman Haymond and Councilman McDougal.

Then early this morning, I joined Jordan School District Superintendent Dr. Godfrey, Riverton PD, teachers, and administrators in welcoming students back for second semester at my alma mater, Riverton High School, reminding them that they are seen, supported, and loved!
