We took a bite out of the Big Apple at our Taste of Manhattan culinary event! 🍎🗽🚕

We enjoyed cups of deli chicken soup, corned beef sandwiches with slaw on rye, a side of Waldorf salad and for dessert, a classic black and white cookie!

To top it off, we watched the movie The Mirror Has Two Faces, a classic rom-com set in the city starring Barbra Streisand and Jeff Bridges.

We can't wait to see – and taste – the cuisine from our destination next month!

Residents at Atria Ironwood Estates had a “ball” playing pool noodle hockey!

"The noise level was at a high this afternoon with cheering and laughter," shares Leslie, the community's Engage Life Coordinator.

"Our team won! It was a close game – 6 to 5, shares resident Jean. "You'd think the Edmonton Oilers would want us," she laughs.

We heard there's going to be a rematch, and we're looking forward it!

It was tea time across our communities as we enjoyed a cuppa at our Afternoon Tea Social Series events.

Dressed in our springtime finery, we snacked on tea sandwiches and pastries, chatted with friends and played lawn games. A marvelous time was had by all!

We are so lucky to have residents who share their talents with their communities. At Holiday Thornton Place they take turns behind the piano, playing for their neighbors, who in turn love to sing along.

Michael has been learning to play the piano at the local VA. An otherwise shy personality, he enjoys playing for his fellow residents. "He was a caregiver for more than 20 years," shares Kim, the community's Engage Life Coordinator. She says he is "super sweet" and happy to be at Thornton Place.

Music truly brings our communities together! 🎶

Cupid’s arrow struck Gordon and Marion 69 years ago, and it’s been love ever since!

They met at a country dance at the Red Barn in Oshawa, Ontario. Marion was supposed to be set up with Gord's friend, but luckily, that did not work out. "It was love at first sight," shares Marion. "It will be 70 years together on June 30 this year."

We look forward to celebrating that milestone with them at Atria The Court at Brooklin! 🎊

Motzie shared her landmark birthday with her friends and neighbors at a party at Holiday Redbud Hills. Surrounded by smiles and cake, Motzie reminded us all that you're never too old to celebrate.

We loved seeing such a wonderful turnout at Holiday Rancho Village for resident Patricia’s book signing!

She kicked off the event with a presentation about her book and what inspired her to write before an enthusiastic crowd eager to purchase copies – selling out by the end of the event! Residents then lined up to have their books signed.

"It felt really good to have people show up," Patricia shares. "The thought of being 96 and feeling like a local celebrity was surreal."

Congratulations to Patricia on this incredible achievement. We’re so proud to have such talented people in our communities.

This week’s Resident of the Week is Emily

Emily was born in Lewisburg, WV. She attended the West Virginia Wesleyan College to pursue her desired degree, and then continued her education at the University of Detroit to achieve her PhD. She’s been a professional in her field of study since ‘76 and still continues the same line of work. Emily was married in graduate school and was blessed with 2 girls, one of which now resides in France! She has a granddaughter as well! Emily possesses a love for reading, travel, and cats. Though Emily is new to our community, she has quickly became beloved by many!

Our first Resident of the Week - Barbara B.

Barbara was born in Rhode Island, where she lived until she was 20 years old. She then moved to San Francisco to be a “working girl” which is also where she met her husband. Together, they traveled the world with the U.S. Navy for 25 years. Their favorite visits being Italy and Spain. When Barbara “became single” at the age of 50, she decided to go back to school and studied Oriental Medicine. She was a practitioner of Jin Shin Jyustu for 15 years before she retired to Florida where she began teaching her profession. After another 15 years of the retired life she decided to move back home to Roanoke to be closer with family and soon found herself here, at Elm Park Estates. At 80 years old she thought for sure she’d be our eldest resident, however during her first dining experience with us she quickly realized that was not so. She was greeted by a 99 year old man and his 96 year old wife with grace and friendship. She is now one of our favorite ambassadors aiding in the decorating, planning, and ex*****on of events.
