"First, I was trying to be pre-med, and it wound up being art," laughs Daniel, an artist who may be retired but hasn't hung up his paintbrushes just yet.
For the past four years at Holiday Simi Hills, Daniel has continued doing what he's loved for a lifetime: creating art. His apartment is filled with colorful paintings and handmade papier-mache flowers reflecting his curiosity and creativity.
Art has been part of Daniel's life since childhood, when his father, a commercial artist, first introduced him to clay and painting. Today, he continues to experiment with new techniques and find inspiration everywhere – from dancers at a local performance to the flowers and people around him.
When asked what creating art means to him, Daniel shared, "You're creating something that wasn't there before. It's like a tree makes leaves and flowers. So I'm a tree."
We're grateful that residents like Daniel continue to share their talents and remind us that creativity can keep growing at every stage of life.
