Congratulations, Deputy Jeff McGlothlin!

The Coke County Sheriff’s Office is proud to congratulate Deputy Jeff McGlothlin on successfully completing the 2026 D.A.R.E. Officer Training (D.O.T.) Academy and becoming one of the newest certified D.A.R.E. Officers.

Jeff’s dedication to serving the citizens of Coke County goes far beyond law enforcement. His willingness to invest his time in educating and mentoring our youth speaks volumes about his character and commitment to this community. The D.A.R.E. program provides students with valuable life skills to make safe and responsible decisions, and I have no doubt Deputy McGlothlin will make a lasting, positive impact in our schools.

I couldn’t be more proud of Jeff for his hard work, professionalism, and commitment to the future of our children. Details

At 746 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Broome, moving north at 30 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and penny size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.

Locations impacted include...
Broome, Water Valley, The Intersection Of Highway 158 And Ranch Road
2059, and Us-87 Near The Coke-Tom Green County Line.
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash – US Highway 277

At approximately 12:40 a.m. on July 17, 2026, the Coke County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a two-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck on U.S. Highway 277, approximately 7 miles north of Bronte.

The sole occupant of the pickup truck was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Agencies responding to the incident included the Coke County Sheriff’s Office, West Coke County EMS, the Bronte Volunteer Fire Department, the Robert Lee Volunteer Fire Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and TxDOT.

The Coke County Sheriff’s Office extends our deepest condolences and prayers to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time. We also want to thank all of the first responders who assisted at the scene for their professionalism and dedication.

Out of respect for the family, no additional information is being released at this time.

WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...A portion of west central Texas, including the following
counties, Brown, Coke, Coleman, Concho, Crockett, Fisher, Irion,
Kimble, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, Nolan, Runnels, San Saba,
Schleicher, Sterling, Sutton, Taylor and Tom Green.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...There is a potential for life threatening flooding within
the watch area. Considerable to locally catastrophic flash flooding
impacts are likely for portions of the Northern Edwards Plateau
including portions of Crockett and Sutton counties. Excessive
runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other
low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise
out of their banks. Flooding will occur in poor drainage and urban
areas. Low-water crossings will be flooded. Extensive street
flooding is likely and flooding of creeks and rivers is possible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Multiple rounds of heavy rainfall are expected over portions of
West Central Texas through this evening. High moisture values
will fuel highly efficient rain-producing storms, with model
guidance indicating near-stationary clusters capable of producing
2 to 4 inches of rain per hour. This could lead to additional
rainfall totals today of 2 to 6 inches over the Watch area, with
isolated totals even higher.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

* At 1021 AM CDT, Although the heaviest rain has ended for the
moment, up to 6 inches of rain have fallen since 3 am. Flash
flooding is ongoing and will continue through at least noon.

HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing
flash flooding.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. This will
include Valley Creek flowing south into Runnels County,
Elm Creek flowing into Taylor County, and Bitter Creek
flowing into Nolan County. Low water crossings along these
creeks will likely remain flooded and impassable.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Blackwell, Nolan, Hylton, Happy Valley, Wingate, Fort Chadbourne,
Coronados Camp, Shep, Oak Creek Reservoir, Camp Butman, Pumphrey,
Wilmeth, and Drasco.

💙 Law Enforcement Child Month 💙

Behind every badge is a family—and behind so many of those badges are children who make sacrifices that often go unseen.

The children of law enforcement officers share in the late nights, missed holidays, interrupted family dinners, canceled plans, and the worry that comes every time their mom or dad answers the call. They don’t wear a badge, but they serve right alongside us.

As Sheriff of Coke County, I want to recognize and thank every law enforcement child. Your strength, patience, and sacrifices do not go unnoticed. We know it isn’t always easy, and we appreciate everything you give so your parent can serve and protect our communities.

To all of our law enforcement families: thank you for the love, support, and encouragement you provide every day. You are the foundation that allows us to do this job.

HIGHWAY 208 ROLLOVER TRAFFIC UPDATE:

Emergency personnel is quickly working to clean up the highway from the rollover accident on South Highway 208. TX Dot is currently attempting to open one lane of travel at this time. To avoid time constraints, please continue to go the detour route of FM 2662 to US Hwy 277. Further updates will be made available when received.
