As we continue to recognize April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, I want to highlight the staff of the Special Victims Unit.

Led by Assistant District Attorney Hillary Langdon, Chief of the Special Victims Unit, Assistant District Attorney Patrick Gallagher, Chief of the Domestic Violence Bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Jessica Wagner, Deputy Chief of the Special Victims Unit, the prosecutors, victim advocates, support staff, and investigators of this bureau face some of the most heart wrenching cases that come through our office.

The reality is difficult to face: child abuse is happening in our community, often in silence. But silence is what allows it to continue. That is why I want every member of our community to know, you have a role to play. If you suspect abuse, say something. Make the call. Your voice could be the one that saves a child’s life.

The staff members in this picture represent the champions of our special victims. Their work makes a profound difference in the lives of survivors and strengthens the safety of our community. I am deeply grateful for all that they do in the courtroom and behind the scenes.

Today, I joined Lindsay Tomiday and Kristina Daugherty to present Tommy Khounlivong with the Community Service Award, alongside members of our public safety team.

Originally announced at the Monroe County STOP-DWI Awards Luncheon, this recognition highlights Tommy’s outstanding dedication to serving our community and helping keep our roads safe.

Tommy’s commitment to public safety reflects the very best of our office, and we are grateful for the impact he continues to make each day.

Congratulations, Tommy, on this well-deserved honor.

Today, I stood alongside our partners at The Child Advocacy Center of Greater Rochester as we reaffirmed a commitment that is as urgent today as it has ever been.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and today we came together, not just to sign a document, but to stand united for the children in our community who need us most. This Memorandum of Understanding represents more than words on paper. It is a promise. A promise that law enforcement, prosecutors, advocates, and community partners will work together to protect children, seek justice, and help survivors heal.

I am incredibly grateful to the Child Advocacy Center for the compassionate, life-changing work they do every single day, serving children and families with care, dignity, and hope. I also want to welcome the newly named President & CEO, Jeff Pier! We are all looking forward to working closely with the CAC under your leadership.

I also want to recognize the prosecutors in my office’s Special Victims Unit. These cases are some of the most difficult and heartbreaking we handle. They require strength, empathy, and an unwavering commitment to justice and I could not be prouder of the work they do on behalf of victims who deserve to be heard and protected.

It was an honor to attend the Lifespan Celebration of Aging Luncheon with special guest speaker Ernie Hudson. Congratulations to all of this year’s honorees doing great things for the community.

During Women’s History Month, I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible women working in the District Attorney’s Office.

Women work in all bureaus and departments within the office, from our Assistant District Attorneys to our support staff, investigators, stenographers, and victim advocates, these professionals are among the most dedicated public servants I have the privilege to work with. Every day, they bring integrity and an unwavering commitment to justice, supporting victims, strengthening our cases, and helping to keep our community safe.

This month and every month, I am grateful for all that they do and proud to serve alongside them. I am also proud that women make up half of our attorneys, reflecting the strength, talent, and leadership they bring to the legal profession every day. Pictured below are just some of women of the DA's Office.

Jury Finds Kyelon Marbury Guilty of Murder in the 2nd Degree for the Homicide of James Huff, four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th Degree

Rochester, NY- On Friday, March 20, 2026, a Monroe County jury convicted 20-year-old Kyelon Marbury of Murder in the 2nd Degree, four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th Degree for the shooting of a random member of the Rochester community on April 21, 2021, and the killing of James Huff on April 23, 2023.

On April 21, 2023, an individual in the City of Rochester was driving in her vehicle near Rosewood Terrace and Webster Avenue, when she was shot at by Kyelon Marbury. Fortunately, she was not struck.

Two days later on April 23, 2023, shortly after 1:00 PM, Rochester Police Officers responded to Webster Avenue for reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, 31-year-old James Huff was located between Parsells Avenue and Melville Street with multiple gunshot wounds in his upper body. He was immediately transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

After a thorough investigation, it was determined that Mr. Huff was walking home, when Kyelon Marbury and at least one other individual shot at James Huff in a drive-by shooting. Kyelon Marbury was also identified as responsible for the reckless gunfire on April 21, 2023. The defendant was incarcerated on an unrelated homicide case when he was charged with the murder of James Huff.

Kyelon Marbury was previously sentenced on January 23, 2026, to 50 years to Life in the New York State Department of Corrections for the murder of Jermaine Wilkins and attempted murder of another individual.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Adam VanHeyst, Deputy Chief of the Major Felony Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Michael Harrigan, Chief of the Major Felony Bureau.

“At a young age, Kyelon Marbury has been convicted by juries in two separate homicides,” said Assistant District Attorney Adam VanHeyst. “The amount of bloodshed and heartache that this defendant has caused in our community is insurmountable. The defendant has shown a pattern of terrorizing innocent members of the Rochester community and I hope he uses the rest of his life to reflect on his actions. I hope this conviction brings a sense of justice to James Huff’s family and loved ones, who have lived with this unimaginable loss for nearly three years.”

“This verdict holds Kyelon Marbury accountable for yet another senseless act of violence that took an innocent life and endangered others in our community,” said Monroe County District Attorney Brian Green. “James Huff was simply walking home when he was murdered, a tragic reminder of the devastation of gun violence. I commend the Rochester Police Department for their thorough investigation and ADA VanHeyst and ADA Harrigan for their dedication to securing justice. While no verdict can undo the pain suffered by the Mr. Huff’s family, we hope this outcome provides some measure of peace while mourning their loved one.”

Kyelon Marbury will be sentenced on April 21, 2026 in front of Monroe County Court Judge Hahn.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

As someone proud of my Irish heritage, this holiday is a time to celebrate the traditions, culture, and resilience of the Irish people who came to America seeking opportunity and a better life for their families.

That spirit was especially meaningful today as I had the honor of attending a naturalization ceremony welcoming our nation’s newest citizens. Watching 18 individuals from around the world take the Oath of Allegiance is a powerful reminder of what makes this country so special — people from different backgrounds choosing to become part of the American story.

Like so many immigrants before them, these new citizens came here with hope, determination, and a belief in the promise of the United States.

Congratulations to our newest Americans, and happy St. Patrick’s Day to all who celebrate! 🍀
