Hanover Board of Health Approves Kratom Ban Effective July 6, 2026

The Ban Includes All Unregulated Novel Intoxicating Products

The Hanover Board of Health voted unanimously on June 2, 2026, to adopt regulations prohibiting the sale and distribution of and other unregistered novel intoxicating products within the Town of Hanover. This new regulation will take effect on July 6, 2026.

The Board's decision followed months of research, public input, and discussion regarding the safety and regulation of Kratom products. Board members noted concerns regarding the lack of federal oversight, product testing, and labeling standards currently associated with Kratom products available to consumers.

During the meeting, Board members expressed appreciation for residents, business owners, and advocates who shared their perspectives throughout the review process. The Board acknowledged that testimony and written submissions from individuals on all sides of the issue helped inform its deliberations at a previously held public meeting on May 19, 2026.

In establishing the July 6, 2026, effective date, the Board sought to provide local retailers with adequate time to comply with the new regulation and responsibly manage existing inventory.

While the Board determined that a ban is warranted under current conditions, members noted that the regulation could be reviewed and revised should future federal regulations or product safety standards provide greater assurance regarding product quality and consumer safety.

We're proud to announce that Lori has been endorsed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 223, which represents union electricians and technicians across Southeastern Massachusetts.

IBEW Local 223 members build, maintain, and repair the electrical systems that keep our homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses running, and Lori is honored to stand with them in the fight for fair wages, safe working conditions, and strong apprenticeship and training programs.

As State Representative for the 5th Plymouth District, Lori will work every day to expand union jobs, strengthen workplace protections, and ensure that public investments in critical infrastructure support local workers and responsible contractors.
