Happy September!

I’m trying something a little new this month and thought I’d share a few of my goals for September. I’ve never really done a monthly goals post before, but I thought it could be a fun way to share a little more of what I’m working toward, both in my role on Council and just personally.

These aren’t in any particular order, and they definitely aren’t everything I’m working on at the moment. Just a handful of things I’d like to make time for this month. As always, if there's anything you think should be on there feel free to contact me, I'm excited to see what this month brings!

Calling all Rolla ladies!!

I’m teaming up with Rolla Girlies to host a clothing swap at Healing Hearts Counseling, LLC this Friday! If you’re like me and have a closet full of clothes that could use a good look-through before fall, come on out and swap with other women!

As someone with no sisters, I would much rather see my clothes go to other girls who can love and wear them than simply sit in my closet. I love the idea of giving our gently used clothing and accessories a new life while connecting with other women in our community! 💕

Any clothing left over at the end of the event will be donated to women in need. If you have any questions, please reach out! We hope to see you there!! 🩷

It’s the first day back to school at Missouri S&T!!
You might have noticed that Rolla got a little busier this weekend as students, families, faculty, and staff helped our incoming class move into their housing. A special welcome to the Class of 2030, we’re so glad to have you here!

Wishing all of our students a wonderful semester filled with new friends, new experiences, and plenty of success.

Rolla residents, let’s give our newest community members a warm welcome and show them what we’re all about! And to our freshmen: we hope you have a great first semester. It might seem like drinking water out of a fire-hose the first week, but I promise by the end of it, you’ll know your way around campus, your favorite places to eat, and with any luck, how to navigate the roundabout 😉

LETS GO MINERS!! 💚💛

I had a great time at the Rolla Chamber monthly luncheon on Wednesday! Mr. Riesberg, Rolla’s city administrator, gave a great presentation to chamber members on what the city is currently working on. This included updates on the new Phelps ED, Rolla Animal Hospital, construction and more!

I’m glad we were able to watch and support! (Melissa left early but she was there in spirit in the first pic😂)

Flock Cameras in Rolla? No flocking way. 🚫

For those of you who have been watching news from other counties in the state, you might have seen that today, St. Charles County Police Department ended its use of Flock Safety license plate readers following an internal audit that revealed "egregious misuse" of the system by a civilian employee for a personal matter.

I’ve been telling friends that this is comparable to George Orwell’s 1984, only when I read it in my 7th grade English class, I never imagined that big brother could become real, at least not in my lifetime. In the time that I’ve been in office, I’ve continuously practiced transparency in talking with constituents. I’m being transparent when I say that I don’t trust these cameras, or the people who have access to its data. The argument that they are put in place for “public safety” has not outweighed its challenges and breaches of privacy that we’re seeing over the country, including in Springfield and St. Louis.

To be clear, Rolla does NOT currently have any flock cameras in use, nor have I been made aware of any mention about the possibility of bringing them to our city. As with any issue pertaining to technology, I’ll continue to research the topic to further educate myself, but know that I will always vote against its usage. Do you have any thoughts on the instillation of these cameras? Let me know in the comments below or email me at [email protected] 📷

I had a great time yesterday at the Missouri State Fair!! I got to represent the Missouri S&T Biology department and I always enjoy talking to many folks across the area. While the drive to Sedalia from Rolla may be a bit far, the fair will be going on throughout the week! Be sure to visit our S&T friends if you see them! 🎡🎟️

I got to see the Raging Grannies of Rolla perform yesterday and as always they did amazing! These wonderful ladies use music, humor, and a whole lot of granny love to support causes they care about and bring smiles wherever they go…I’m just waiting for them to go on tour! 😂

I know for certain that if my Grammy were still with us she would’ve absolutely loved this. Thank you, ladies, for sharing your talents and reminding us that you’re never too old to have fun, make people smile, and make a difference. Rolla is lucky to have you! 🫶🏼
