New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation

New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation Non-profit organization supporting research, prevention, education, and the proper treatment of burns They wanted to help these youngsters.

During the Vietnam War, two New York City Firefighters, Joe Hickey and Jack Meara, were deeply moved by a news photograph of two Vietnamese children who had been severely burned by napalm. They thought that with a little help from friends they might be able to bring these children to New York for treatment. They then discovered, to their surprise, that there were no medical facilities in the New

York area devoted exclusively to the treatment of burns. While hospitals coped with burn victims as well as they could, there were none that specialized in the treatment of severe burn injuries. Alarmed by their findings, the firefighters decided to do something about the situation. As other firefighters joined in their efforts they began working with physicians and other concerned citizens, and were eventually instrumental in the establishment of the BURN CENTER at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. Our goal is to make quality burn care available to all who are seriously burned, regardless of age, race, creed or economic status. This site is designed to inform you of what we do including: upcoming events, fund-raisers, and burn care assistance. Firefighters and members of the Burn Team have a special empathy for burn victims. No other group witnesses more of the devastation that fire wreaks on the human body.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the volunteers who attended this year’s FDNY vs. NYPD hockey game and assisted with selling 50/50 tickets. We also want to share a special thank you to the FDNY Hockey Team for their incredible generosity and partnership. They have been a steadfast supporter of our foundation and honored us again this year as a recipient of the funds raised during the charity game. It was an amazing day!

We are incredibly proud to announce that two brand-new, specialized gaming systems are now officially in operation at the , providing an escape for the patients receiving treatment. These additions were made possible by Nick Giordano, who ran the Jersey City Marathon in memory of his father, Jeff, a beloved foundation board member and avid runner who was lost on September 11th, 2001. Nick raised over $3,000 through his incredible efforts, a total our foundation was honored to match to bring this project to life.

These gaming systems create a space where children and adults alike can take a break from the challenges of recovery and focus on the simple joy of play. We are deeply grateful to Nick for his dedication to his father’s legacy and to everyone who supported his run and our foundation. Your generosity is directly responsible for the smiles these systems are guaranteed to bring.

Last night we were humbled to be presented a $1000 check by Engine 315 / Ladder 125. We can not say thank you enough for their continued support year after year.
