The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is rolling out our new emergency notification system. This system will be used for weather alerts along with other emergency notifications that need to be sent out, such as winter parking, water main breaks, or shelter in places. These notifications can be sent through multiple different avenues: phone call, text message, or email.

We are partnering with RAVE Alert and Smart 911 for our notification system. The are a few different options to sign-up. You can scan the QR code on the photo, the one with the t-rex, go to the website, https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/reg.action?pa=lyonmnus, or you can text LYON to 226787.

At the log-in page, you will be able to add your phone, email, and address into the website for your profile. Your address will be used for when we need to notify you based on narrow location instead of all of Lyon County.

RAVE Alert is taking place of CodeRED. CodeRED was compromised by a hack late last year and we are not longer able to send the necessary notifications through CodeRED.

Our first public notification will take place on this Wednesday for the first Wednesday of the month testing. If you have any questions on how to sign-up, please contact Sergeant Adam Connor.

It has been brought to the city’s attention that someone recently vandalized the playground equipment at the School Playground. If you saw anything suspicious or have any information that may help, please contact Laurie or Jason at the City Office or let one of the council members know.

** CANDIDACY FILING **

The first day to file for Mayor (2-year term) and Two Council Seats (4-year terms) on the Russell City Council will be Tuesday, July 14, 206, and the last day for filing on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Closing time for filing on the last day is 5:00 P.M.

Offices available for filing are:
Mayor (2-year term)
Two(2) council seats (4 yr. terms).

Candidates must file in the City Clerk's Office, Monday, Wednesday - Friday 7:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M or Tuesday Noon to 5:00 P.M. at 106 River Street, Russell, MN. There is a $2.00 filing fee.

Please note the office will be closed on Friday July 17th.

NOTICE:
The water hydrant in the park is for park use only. The city office has had reports of some people hauling water out of the park in barrels. If you want to buy water from the City of Russell, other, than your normal water service please speak with Jason or Laurie to make arrangements.

Kaspar Suvaorg, a college student from Europe, stopped in the City office this morning. He will be stopping by several homes in Russell in the coming days. He is working with Southwestern Advantage selling educational and leadership books.
