OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IN LA RIVIERA
On Friday, July 31, 2026, at approximately 9:00 am, our Communications Center received a call stating a transient subject, described as an adult male, was burglarizing the victim’s vehicle on the 9000 block of Folsom Blvd. When the victim attempted to get his items back from the suspect, the suspect pulled out a knife and threatened the victim. When deputies arrived on scene, the suspect had already fled. Deputies canvassed the area looking for the suspect. Deputies located abandoned property in the area, possibly belonging to the suspect, and were able to determine his identity based on the property.
At approximately 10:20 am, our Communications Center received a call reporting a burglary in progress on the 2600 block of Mackinaw Way. The homeowner had returned home to find a man matching the description of the previous robbery suspect inside his home. The suspect had the homeowner’s handgun and threatened to kill him, repeatedly pointing the weapon at the homeowner’s head. Fortunately, the homeowner was able to run from the residence and call 9-1-1. The suspect attempted to steal the homeowner’s vehicle but was unsuccessful. Instead, he stole his bicycle and fled.
Deputies arrived on scene and located the suspect fleeing on the stolen bicycle, with the stolen firearm in his hand. Deputies attempted to stop the suspect, however, he refused to comply. Deputies followed him from Grayling Way onto Westbound Barracuda Way. The suspect reached the end of the cul-de-sac and stopped at the locked gate. After abandoning the bicycle, he squeezed between the two gates and fled into the large parking lot. Deputies continued pursuing the armed suspect on foot.
