👏Congratulations to Sylvia Kwan, FAIA, NCARB, NOMA, LEED AP, of San Rafael, on her election as Vice President of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards!

In June 2027, Sylvia will become NCARB President, continuing her dedication to strengthening pathways to licensure for future architects through the Pathways to Practice initiative.

She has been a tremendous leader in California, serving on the California Architects Board as both president and vice president, and representing NCARB Region 6 since 2021.

👏We’re proud to celebrate this exciting achievement!

📢License renewals for the 2027-2029 cycle start this November. Renewals for the 2025-2027 cycle can be completed through our Connect online application portal. If you have not accessed Connect previously, you must register an account before proceeding.

📢As stated previously, beginning the 2027-2029 renewal cycle, the California Architects Board (CAB) will no longer mail out renewal license documentation. CAB is taking this action to reduce its carbon footprint and the environmental impact of the paper-based licensure model.

Architects may visit the DCA Search tool available on the CAB website and view official licensure documentation under their respective license search results. CAB has notified California planning agencies of this policy change.

📢CAB would like to make a clarification about the recent post regarding license documentation. The 8.5”x11” Architect Wall Certificate, which is not a license to practice architecture, will still be mailed to newly licensed architects upon issuance of their initial license.

📢CAB is only discontinuing the mailing of the paper license documents as previously stated in our earlier post. Apologies for the confusion this may have caused.

📢Starting on July 1, 2026, the California Architects Board (CAB) will no longer be mailing license documentation (pocket and wall licenses) when a license is issued to a newly licensed architect. CAB is taking this action to reduce its carbon footprint and the environmental impact of the paper-based licensure model.

📢Newly licensed architects may visit the DCA Search tool available on the CAB website and view official licensure documentation under their respective license search results. CAB will be notifying California planning agencies of this policy change soon.

🪪 Beginning your architect licensure process?

You may apply anytime through Connect, our online application portal, by submitting an Application for Eligibility Evaluation. Just make sure you have an NCARB record with California selected as your jurisdiction for testing.

You stay active as long as you took an exam within the previous five years. Keep an eye on your TAS (Test Activity Status) in your NCARB My Examination record so you don’t become inactive. And remember—extensions aren’t available, so staying on top of your timeline is important!
