Your Officiant Does More Than “Say a Few Words” 💍

Your wedding ceremony may only last 15–30 minutes…but those minutes carry a LOT of weight.

As a wedding officiant, I’ve learned that one of the biggest misconceptions about the ceremony is that the officiant simply shows up, reads a script, pronounces the couple married, and leaves.

There’s much more happening behind the scenes.

I’m thinking about the flow of the ceremony, how everyone will know when to stand or speak, where vows and rings fit naturally, how the couple wants to be introduced, what are the couples’ preferred pronouns, and whether meaningful traditions, readings, cultural elements, or loved ones should be incorporated.

And then there’s the legal side: making sure the marriage license is completed correctly and returned appropriately to applicable Clerk-Recorder’s Office after the ceremony.

The best ceremonies feel effortless to guests because the details were handled before anyone walked down the aisle.

🚨 PLOT TWIST: THERE WAS AN ACTUAL WEDDING AT THE PARTY! 💍🎉

The 916 Pillow Princess Party at Roscoe’s Bar & Burgers was already going to be a night to remember—but Hanna (.pepper.cvltt )& Lucien ( ) made it OFFICIAL! ❤️

I had the privilege of officiating their wedding right in the middle of Thursday night’s festivities, and these two understood the assignment: show up, celebrate your love, get married, throw in a full split for good measure. 😂🔥 Bussitdown, Hanna!!

Weddings don’t have to mean ballrooms, 200 guests, or months of complicated planning. Sometimes the perfect ceremony is intimate, unconventional, joyful, and surrounded by a community ready to celebrate the two of you.

🌈 Pride Month Is More Than A Celebration—It’s A History Lesson.

Many people know Pride Month takes place in June, but fewer know why.

Pride commemorates the LGBTQ+ activists and community members who fought for rights, visibility, and legal recognition during a time when simply being open about who they were could result in discrimination, job loss, or even arrest.

Because of those efforts, today’s LGBTQ+ community has greater protections and opportunities than previous generations could have imagined.

As an LGBTE certified business, I never take that progress for granted.

Every time I assist a client with a notarization, I remember that equal access to professional services matters. Whether someone is updating records, purchasing a home, planning for their family’s future, or signing important legal documents, everyone deserves to be treated with professionalism and respect.

This Pride Month, let’s celebrate how far we’ve come while continuing to support one another and our local communities.

Being nominated for Community Leader of the Year by the Sacramento Rainbow Chamber of Commerce means more to me than any trophy ever could. To be seen. To be considered. To be thought of as someone making an impact in our community? That’s everything.

This nomination represents early mornings, late nights, board meetings, events, advocacy, and showing up consistently for LGBTQ+ businesses and entrepreneurs in the Greater Sacramento region. It represents collaboration over competition. It represents heart.

Awards are amazing. But impact? Impact is legacy.

Yesterday was such a great reminder that being a Notary doesn’t mean working alone. Jennifer needed two witnesses for her signing, and because we stay connected in a local notary group, Cheryl and I were able to jump in and help make it happen.
