NJ Senator Kristin Corrado Questions Cost of New Immigration Defense Spending While School Aid is Cut
Senator Kristin Corrado released the following statement questioning Governor Sherrill’s decision to increase funding for the Detention Deportation Defense Initiative by $12 million, bringing the total to $20.2 million, as she has insisted every dollar of new spending would be offset by budget cuts.
“The Governor has insisted that this year's budget is a 'something in, something out' exercise, so what is being cut to pay for another $12 million in immigration legal defense funding, and what will the new Rapid Legal Response Initiative cost? Coming on the heels of the Delaney Hall controversy, this feels less like a policy decision and more like a political one. New Jersey families are being forced to accept drastic reductions to their school aid funding resulting in everything from sports to courtesy bussing being cut while the administration finds millions for initiatives designed to satisfy the Democrats’ extreme political base.”
New Jersey Governor Blows $20 Million on Legal Defense for Illegals
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill just announced another $12 million in taxpayer dollars for her Detention Deportation Defense Initiative, pushing the total to a staggering $20.2 million. She’s also launching a “Rapid Legal Response Initiative” to give illegal immigrants emergency lawyers and court help across the state.
While Garden State families choke on the nation’s highest property taxes, sky-high living costs, and crumbling roads, Sherrill is laser-focused on making sure deportable illegals get every legal trick in the book to stay here. The governor calls it “fundamental human rights.” Taxpayers call it a slap in the face.
This comes as New Jersey already shells out over $7 billion a year on immigration-related costs. But instead of securing the border or helping struggling American citizens, the priority is funding lawyers to fight deportation.
Sherrill’s message is crystal clear: illegal immigrants first, New Jersey residents last. At a time when legal residents are fleeing the state because of insane taxes and crime, this is exactly the kind of reckless spending that drives them out. Enough is enough.
