Juneteenth is a call to examine whether we are doing our part to bend the arc of the universe toward justice.

Blessings, Bethany Congregation,
Rev. Steven Tendo is a Ugandan pastor who lives in Vermont. Earlier this year, ICE attempted to deport him. After a public outcry from his Vermont neighbors, he was released. Rev. Tendo has a check-in at the St. Albans office this Tuesday, June 16th, and there is a fear that ICE will attempt to deport him again.

I will be canceling our Bible study on the 16th so that I can stand in solidarity with pastor Tendo, and I invite anyone who can make an early rally in St. Albans to join me. I pray that with the eyes of our community upon them, ICE will leave Pastor Tendo to continue living his life here in VT.

Blessings from your Pastor,
Rev. Devon Thomas

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Caroline Bright Announces Candidacy for Vermont House, Franklin-1 District

Georgia, VT — Caroline Bright of Georgia has announced her candidacy for the Vermont House of Representatives, seeking to represent the Franklin-1 district encompassing the towns of Georgia and Fairfax.

“I’m running because I want Vermont to be a place where people can live, come home to, and thrive,” said Bright. “Right now, too many families are being priced out of that possibility.”

A fourth-generation Vermonter, Bright is raising her three young children in the house that five generations of her family have called home. She credits her upbringing in Franklin County, including her time at Missisquoi Valley Union High School, with shaping her values of connection, responsibility, and showing up for others. She is running to ensure that more families can afford to build their lives in the communities they love.

Bright brings a background in public service and community leadership as a Unitarian Universalist minister, the founder of The Bright Side Play Place, and a union flight attendant of over a decade, where she developed a strong ability to navigate complex situations and connect with people from all walks of life. She lives in Georgia with her husband, Joel, a Deputy State’s Attorney and Vermont Army National Guard officer, and their three children.

Her campaign will focus on supporting working families and strengthening local communities, including addressing the rising cost of living, rethinking how Vermont funds education to respond to rising property taxes, expanding access to childcare, strengthening rural infrastructure, supporting small businesses, and improving communication between state government and the communities it serves.

Bright previously served as Miss Vermont 2010, where her platform focused on encouraging women to run for public office. “Years ago, I encouraged women across Vermont to step forward and lead,” she said. “This campaign is me taking my own advice.”
Bright’s campaign will prioritize direct engagement with voters across the district in the coming months.

True courage is to center yourself in justice, not political self advantage. Vermont should be a leader in fair taxation, but we are lagging behind.
