On August 5th 2011 Trey was in remission, but this was just the beginning of his very long battle. For a year he endured intensive chemotherapy. We were ready to begin "maintenance" which is where he would get chemo once monthly, when we hit a major complication. In June 2012, Trey spiked a fever and and was admitted to the hospital. He was inpatient for 26 days before I was able to convince the
Dr to let us monitor his fevers at home. For a total of 43 days Trey had fevers of 104+ where we would have to pack him in ice because we couldn't give him medication as often as the fevers were coming. After severall CT scans, xrays, consultations from other physicians and facilities, and a liver biopsy the source of the fevers was found. Trey had developed a fungal infection in his bloodstream. He then had to have his port removed, a PICC line placed to administer the medications, and after 8 weeks of IV medication he had to have another port placed. Once the infection was cleared up, we were able to resume treatment as usual. Trey was due to complete his treatment October 24th 2014. On December 18th 2013 Trey went in for a routine treatment, the next morning we got the call that Trey had relapsed. It was hard enough hearing this news the first time, but to hear it twice is unimaginable, because now, I know exactly what he is in for with his treatment.
