AATTC The mission of the Advanced Airlift Tactics Center Training Center (AATTC) is increasing the
warfighting effectiveness and survivability of mobility forces.

The AATTC is in its third decade of providing advanced tactical training to airlift aircrews from the Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve Command, Air Mobility Command, Air Combat Command, Air Force Special Operations Command, United States Marine Corps, and 16 allied nations. Through a Total Force Initiative, AATTC also provides Tactics Analysis, Tactics Development, and Electronic Warfare Deve

lopment for the mobility community. The AATTC functions as a clearinghouse for gathering and disseminating airlift tactics information. Since 1983, the AATTC has hosted an annual tactics symposium in St. Joseph, MO. Attendees from all branches of the Department of Defense as well as government contractors and numerous allied nations are represented. Serving as the cornerstone for aircraft tactics, the AATTC has maintained a reputation as the mobility air force’s “Tactics Center of Excellence” since its inception. Recently the 303rd Fighter Squadron out of Whiteman AFB reached out to the AATTC to see if we could integrate joint air-to-air refueling operations as part of our training sorties during the Advanced Tactics Aircrew Course. It just so happened that this month we had a Marine Corps KC-130J from VMGR 252 with us.

Earlier this year A-10 Thunderbolt II’s received a new adapter that allows pilots to use probe-and-drogue refueling instead of boom-only systems. This upgrade allows two A-10s to refuel simultaneously, unlike traditional refueling methods with KC-135 aircraft.

This is a huge boost for operational effectiveness and opportunities such as this one with the AATTC is great practice, not only for the A-10 pilots to use their new gear but to our students. This type of joint interoperability is what makes the U.S. military an agile fighting force that can effectively adapt to any challenge faced.

Our maintainers are always working hard to give our students and their aircraft the best support for any issue that could arise. Their newly acquired dual qualification for the C-130H and C-130J is just another tool in their belt.

Aircraft maintenance professionals assigned to the Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center have reached a significant milestone by becoming dual qualified on both the C-130H and C-130J Hercules, enhancing their ability to support the school's evolving mission.

Our Missouri National Guard Adjutant General Maj Gen Charles Hausman came down to U.S. Army Fort Huachuca to observe the great work the AATTC does during our Advanced Tactics Aircrew Course. He was also joined by Col Michael Childs, the Fort Huachuca garrison commander for a low level awareness training sortie as well as presenting coins in appreciation of top performers.

A few dark clouds and windy skies doesn't keep aircrews attending the Advanced Tactics Aircrew Course on the ground. As the saying goes, 'if it ain't raining, ya ain't training.' Although we were able to escape any rain, it was indeed a good week of training last week in U.S. Army Fort Huachuca.
