Just incase you didn't know... now you know. This story is the type of character every firefighter out there should want to emulate.

Before becoming an actor, Steve Buscemi served as an FDNY Firefighter with Engine Co. 55 in Manhattan from 1980-84.
After the events on September 11, 2001, Buscemi returned to his former Engine company and worked 12 hour shifts for several days alongside his fellow firefighters searching through the rubble for survivors.

Once a firefighter, always a firefighter.

COVID-19 TESTING SITES ANNOUNCED FOR ST. MARTIN PARISH

Last week, Parish President Chester Cedars advised that working with Parish Government and the Louisiana Department of Health, Lafayette General Health has agreed to offer testing in St. Martin Parish. The testing shall commence this week and will last through the month of June. The following are the scheduled dates, times, and locations.

Testing is VOLUNTARY and will be available to ANYONE, even those who may be asymptomatic. Members of the community need only bring a valid ID and insurance card if they have one. There will be no out of pocket costs for those seeking to be tested. Lafayette General Health has declared that no one will be refused a test based upon their insurance status.

Also, the testing will be conducted in a drive-thru setting. Hence, everyone should remain in their vehicles. Further, there should be no more than four persons per vehicle.

Test results will be provided within 24-72 hours via the MyHealth patient portal. Those testing positive will be contacted by telephone.

Effective Friday, May 1, 2020, the public parks, under the administration of St. Martin Parish Government, will be re-opened for public use including the children’s playground equipment. Social distancing in all areas SHALL APPLY, and the 10-person limitation rule (parent and children) shall apply to the playground equipment. Therefore, parents are strongly reminded to monitor their children’s activities.

All pavilions at the Parks shall remain closed.

All tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, and ball fields shall also remain closed.

This afternoon in a teleconference with all the mayors, Parish President Cedars discussed this matter with them. Most of the municipalities will adopt the same action. However, for understandable and valid reasons, one or more of the municipalities may take different actions.

The outdoor activities now being allowed at our Parks pose no COVID-19 health risks according to the medical community. Indeed, at his press conference on Monday, Governor John Bel Edwards encouraged citizens to get outdoors and exercise. See you at the track!

*** Public Notice *** STATEWIDE BURN BAN ISSUED DURING PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY

This order is effective as of 8 a.m., March 25, 2020 and shall remain in effect until rescinded. Violation of this Fire Marshal order could result in criminal and/or civil penalties.

STATEWIDE BURN BAN ISSUED DURING PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY

BATON ROUGE- State Fire Marshal H. “Butch” Browning, in collaboration with Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, have issued a statewide cease and desist order for all private burning, pursuant to authority under R.S. 40:1602. Private burning shall only be allowed by permission of the local fire department or local government. This order is effective as of 8 a.m., March 25, 2020 and shall remain in effect until rescinded.

“This burn ban is necessary to supplement the governor’s ‘Stay At Home’ order aimed at mitigating the spread of COVID-19 due to the anticipation that there may be an increase in open burning occurring across the state as families look for ways to pass the time at home,” said State Fire Marshal H. “Butch” Browning, “This order will assist in preventing potential fire-related dangers that could result in unnecessary fire service response as well as diminish airborne irritants caused by burning.”

This ban shall not apply to prescribed burns by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, by those trained and certified by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, or by those who conduct prescribed burning as a “generally accepted agriculture practice” as defined by the Louisiana Right to Farm Law
(R.S. 3:3601 et seq.).

Violation of this Fire Marshal order could result in criminal and/or civil penalties.

This post is dedicated to all of the followers who volunteer! 👊🏻
⠀⠀⠀⠀
“The picture itself says many things, being a volunteer is more that. It's not about setting aside fear to go inside while your running out, or comforting someone who's trapped inside a vehicle and no idea how they got there. Being a volunteer is about what you dropped at the moments notice to go put your own life on the line for somebody you don't know or may ever see again. May it be leaving in the middle of a goods nights sleep, missing your families Christmas, or reading your kid to sleep. We do what we do because we love it. We aren't just volunteers. We're proud to wear the gear that many fear. And do it for free. For us, Pride is our pay" - @voss_is_boss
