Childcare for All MN

10/05/2026

While it was marathon weekend in the Twin Cities, our doorknockers had a marathon weekend of doorknocking to tell people about Childcare for All MN and the candidates who are all in on childcare!

Um, so when we say families can't afford childcare, we're not exaggerating. This is horrifying. We can do way better. How about guaranteed childcare for all?

We've been talking to parents across Minnesota about the cost of childcare. We really don't like their answers.

And this doesn't even begin to tell the story of how much debt young families are carrying to pay for childcare...

Thanks Senator Liz Boldon for joining us at Listos Preschool and Childcare last week for a conversation about why childcare for every family matters and a tour! It’s not every tour you are gifted sweet kid drawings. We totally see the resemblance!

Yes, yes, and yes to all of this. Providers like Lydia Pietruszewskishouldn't have to sacrifice their own wages to afford to pay their teachers!

Minnesota CAN transform how we do childcare so that it works for everyone! AND universal childcare is a smart mover every way you look at it - morally, ethically, socially, financially.

When affordable care isn’t available, parents cut hours or leave the workforce altogether, taking their labor, spending power, and tax contributions with them. Here in Northern MN, most child care centers struggle to pay their skilled staff appropriately because so many families can’t afford it. Many have been forced to close entirely, leaving Cass County children of all ages with fewer and fewer options for care and education.

By the standard set by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) early child care is only affordable if it’s less than 7% of a family’s income, meaning only 6.0% of Minnesota families can afford it.

There are many methods of reform that would prioritize care for our children, our local economies, and our future over foreign and corporate interests. Find out where your local candidates stand on child care.

Super exciting to be able to share a statement that isn’t responding to doom and gloom, but to what we can create together!

We’re excited that Senator Amy Klobuchar is prioritizing childcare!

Everywhere we go, we’re impressed (but not surprised) by the number of local childcare community members who are stepping up to work for something better.
Last night, we got to see that action in St. Cloud, where childcare providers, families, head start superstars, local elected officials, candidates, and community members gathered to talk big problems - and big solutions! 👏 We’re ready for ! 💛
