A powerful and important conversation on grooming, prevention, and how we can better protect children across Minnesota.

This story highlights what experts have long known: grooming is a pattern, not a single moment. Too often, it is only recognized in hindsight.

Dr. Mark Hudson, chair of the Minnesota Children’s Alliance board, helps bring clarity to this complex issue through his perspective as a child abuse pediatrician and director of Midwest Children’s Resource Center.

Protecting children starts with awareness, but it also requires building stronger systems, creating safer environments, and preparing adults to respond.

Experts say it’s exceedingly difficult to recognize grooming while it’s happening. But there are steps institutions can take to prevent grooming and child abuse at schools and childcare centers

Forensic interviews are designed with one priority in mind: the child.

Led by specially trained professionals, this process helps children share their experiences safely while ensuring investigations are handled with accuracy and care.

When we invest in this work, we protect children and support healing.
