The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has issued an air quality alert for western and southern Minnesota. The alert takes effect noon on Saturday, June 6, and runs until 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 7.
Ozone levels will be highest on Saturday and Sunday afternoon but will dip overnight Saturday. Consider moving outdoor plans to after dark on Saturday or Sunday morning before ozone forms in the afternoon.
As a reminder ozone is odorless and colorless. This alert is not for wildfire smoke. As ozone as a gas, masks will not provide protection, and may make the impacts worse as it holds the ozone closer to your face. The easiest way to protect yourself is to limit outdoor exertion in the afternoon when the ozone concentrations are the highest.
