MU Extension horticulture specialists have spent three years researching how to successfully grow lavender in Missouri.

This versatile plant is gaining popularity in a variety of products like detergents, body soaps and is used in cooking and medicines. It also attracts pollinators and repels unwanted insects like fleas, flies and mosquitoes!

In the next phase of research, the plan is to explore ways to incorporate lavender into Missouri's agricultural economy through agritourism and value-added products.

A guide on growing lavender will be available soon.
