Rockingham Park Photo of the Day: August 30, 2026

Photo of the Finish Line taken 17 years ago today on August 30, 2009, which was the final day of live racing at Rockingham Park. It was not publicly known at the time that it would end up being the final day. Racing was cancelled in 2010 as the funding to enforce and oversee racing by the Racing Commission was removed from the state budget by the New Hampshire Legislature as a cost-cutting measure.

Rockingham Park Photo of the Day: August 22, 2026

58 years ago today on August 22, 1968, the 8th race at Rockingham Park was named in honor of actress Patty McCormack. She had been in the area because she was performing in the play for Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park at the Shubert Theatre in Boston.

The race was won by Three Quarter Girl, jockey Michael Hole, owner Peter Fuller, and trainer Odie Clelland. Patty presented the trophy to Michael and Odie.

Earlier this year in January, RPLG's Scott Oldeman had the honor of meeting Patty in Los Angeles. He discussed her time at Rockingham Park, which she remembered vividly. That same summer in 1968, she also participated in the Smiths' Crippled Children's Fundraiser Event, which included actress Judy Garland. Scott gave her copies of the photos from the race, including the program, and she signed a photo of her trophy presentation for the race for him.
