REMEMBERING REGISTER TOM BURKE

Last Tuesday, the people of Essex County lost a dear friend and a fine public servant with the passing of former Northern Essex District Register of Deeds Thomas Burke. Tom was not only my friend, but also my mentor. I learned an awful lot from him; the advice and counsel he gave is something that I will never forget. He took his responsibilities as an elected official very seriously and managed a first class Registry of Deeds. Sharing the same county, we worked hand in hand to make our registry records and functions compatible for the people we represented.

Tom never forgot where he came from; he was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. He never said no, and when that help sometimes seemed impossible to provide, he would search for a way to make it happen, and he always succeeded. He was an old school guy who followed the advice given to me by our friend, former speaker of the house Tom McGee, who said, “if at the end of the day, you can look yourself in the mirror and say ‘I helped someone in need today,’ then you had a good day.” Tommy Burke had many of those good days.

It was an honor to know you, serve with you, and to call you a friend.

Extremely Urgent Announcement
The Southern Essex District Registry of Deeds is experiencing a dramatic increase in the number of employees who are testing positive for COVID-19. Currently four of our coworkers are positive and at home in quarantine. We are doing everything we can to insure the health and safety of our employees while still recording documents.
The situation is continually changing, but we remain closed to the public, with only a limited number of staff on-site who are recording drop-offs, mail, UPS, and FedEx deliveries, with the majority of staff working remotely to process eRecordings. However, we are concerned that if the situation escalates and necessitates closing the registry completely, that we will be unable to record these drop-offs and deliveries.
The employees that are coming in have tested negative, but we still need your help. With the end of the calendar year quickly approaching, we understand the importance of going on record, and we strongly encourage you to sign up for eRecording. Please do not rely on the mail or other delivery services, as we may be unable to record these if employees are unable to enter the building. We also urge you to submit your documents ahead of time if you can, to mitigate any unforeseen issues.
For further updates, continue to monitor our website and our page

12/09/2020

On December 10th and 11th, the Registry will be accepting drop-off recordings, mail, UPS, and FedEx deliveries with a limited number of staff on-site, while the bulk of employees work remotely processing eRecordings.

We strongly encourage that you e-file your documents instead of bringing them to the registry. If you need help signing up we will be more than happy to assist you. We currently work with Simplifile and CSC, but are working to expand to other vendors.

12/09/2020

Due to an employee testing positive for covid-19, all registry employees will not be on site, they will be working remotely on Wednesday, December 9.

Employees will be working remotely, processing eRecordings, however we will not be able to accept drop-off recordings, mail, UPS, FedEx, or other deliveries during this time.

For further updates, continue to monitor our page or our website at www.salemdeeds.com
